Vehicle Detail
1967 Oldsmobile "Triple Black" 442 convertible I acquired this sweet 1967 Oldsmobile convertible about two months ago from a gentleman who purchased it from the owner that had the car since 1976. I was told the mileage could possibly be the original, but I am uncertain of that statement to be factual. It was last registered in 1983, and I saw remnants of the car being at the Naval base in Virginia by a decal that was on the bumper. I believe the reason the body stayed in such solid condition, because it spent the majority of its life down south. This Olds was made to look like an awesome 442 model. I received it with its original paint that was faded, so I simply freshened up the body with the code 19 Ebony black, and gold pin stripes to high light the body lines. The factory chrome door edge guards were re-installed after the paint job. This is a drivers quality paint job that some people might consider to be show quality, but I personally do not. This car is for the guy or girl who had one in high school and would like to revisit the past. It's also a wonderful car to take to the local drive-in movie theater or cruise night. It's just a great car to cruise around in and enjoy the rest of the summer with the top down. The convertible top must have been replaced over the years, because it is in very good condition with no rips or tears. I replaced the rear window, because the previous window had yellowing, and it's nice to see out the rear view mirror through a new clear window. The top goes up and down great, and includes the original convertible top boot to place over the top when the top is down. The stainless steel trim was high speed polished before being re-installed after the new paint job. The rear bumper is brand new triple plated chrome, and the exhaust is newer with dual flowmaster mufflers to make this 67 rumble like a blast from the past. New chrome exhaust tips were just installed. The master cylinder, front shoes, drums, wheel cylinders along with just about all the brake lines have been replaced. The oil, oil filter, air cleaner, pcv valve, points, rotor, condenser, distributor cap, and spark plugs were all recently changed to prepare this car for sale. The spark plug wires were also changed to SplitFire Twin Core 8mm wires for maximum spark. The top radiator hose, and the temperature switch were both replaced. The positive and negative battery terminal leads were upgraded from the skinny originals with a thicker gauge wire for better starting power. This car runs and drives powered by the original Oldsmobile ultra high compression 330V8 engine with a 4 barrel quadrajet carburator that has 320 horsepower. The engine was detailed with new insulation under the hood. The previous owner told me everything under the hood is original from top to bottom. I believe all of the body panels to be original to the car. It is very rare to have air conditioning on a 45 year old car. This Olds was ordered from the factory with a/c and has all the components still in place including the belt. I'm sure it is on the old R-12 system, and I don't have access to that type of freon, so the re-charge will be left up to the next owner if they so desire. This cool old classic has some other rare options that include power steering, power brakes, power windows, power trunk, remote chrome drivers side view mirror, brand new passenger chrome side view mirror, AM radio, and Super Stock I wheels with all four trim rings, and centers. The tires are raised white lettered P225/70R14 inch Viper TR Radial GT's with very nice tread on them. They are just the right size to make this car sit proud like a real 442 should. The Super Stock I wheels are mounted with all new chrome lug nuts. The speedometer, head lights, bright lights, tail lights, brake lights, dash lights, and even the license plate light all work as they should. The entire interior shows very well with only minor imperfection as shown in the pictures with all of the seat belts in place. There are no cracks in the dashboard. The carpet is newer with the extra padding underneath. A new deluxe drink holder was placed between the front seats, but not mounted. The horn, lighter, and radio do not work, but it may be as simple as a fuse, so that will have to be looked into. The wipers work fine on both speeds, and new wiper blades were just installed. The front power windows both work, but the rear windows do not. The windows and the windshield have the nice factory tint, and are in good condition. There are new floor mats inside the car, and a new trunk mat that sits inside a nicely detailed trunk with an original restored jack, and crowbar. The trunk has the courtesy light option under the trunk lid that still works. A full size Super Stock I wheel with a raised white lettered spare tire comes inside the trunk just in case there is a mishap on the road. With a quick tire change you can be on your way looking complete. Everywhere you drive this car people are attracted to it like a magnet. You must be prepared to be the spectacle of the neighborhood. These cars are getting harder and harder to come across. It is very rare to find a "triple black" 442 convertible with the original numbers matching engine that includes all the original parts that are usually long gone, especially with factory air conditioning and power windows. I tried to replace all of the factory decals to make this car appear as it would have looked the day it rolled out of the factory onto the showroom floor. Take advantage of this chance to finally get your dream car. This same looking car was featured in the Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine within the last several months. I have seen a similar 1967 black 442 convertible sell at a Barrett-Jackson live auction near $80,000. I'm not trying to insinuate that this car is anything like a Barrett-Jackson museum piece by any stretch of the imagination. Although, I do believe that this investment will continue to rise as these cars have been known to consistently appreciate in value. This is a prime opportunity to own a piece of muscle car history at a fraction of that price. A great deal of time, money, and effort went into making the car you see listed in this description. What you see is exactly what you get! Plain and simple! This car is being sold as an un-restored car. Naturally if the new owner would like to do a nice restoration they would have one spectacular car. I believe whatever this "triple black" Oldsmobile ends up selling for will be well worth the final bid amount. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide has the current values that anyone can check on-line for a 1967 442 convertible listed at $24,120 in the lowest condition, $33,840 in average condition, and $63,840 in high condition. I try to list everything I can think of when I write a description, but if there is anything you feel I may have missed please ask me any question. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. This fine looking example will be sold on a quick 5-day "No Reserve" auction that will sell to the highest bidder on 08/26/12 at 5pm Pacific time, 7pm Central time, and 8pm Eastern time. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!! On Aug-25-12 at 18:09:43 PDT, seller added the following information: I just wanted to mention before the end of the auction, that the turn signals work great, and they click off by themselves whether you are making a left turn or a right turn. A lot of these old Cutlass Supreme's and 442's had the turn signal mechanism broken in the steering column, so that the driver would have to manually turn off the signal. I also wanted to say that this car steers very straight, and stops awesome. These cars typically pull to one side or the other. This one stays straight when the brakes are applied. The only items that are missing from making this Cutlass Supreme look more like a real 442 are the vented hood, boxed control arms, and the rear sway bar. I have acquired a source during this auction that has those items for sale. I will pass along his information if the winning bidder would like to make this car look more like a real 442. For all of the 442 guys out there that mentioned the back trunk chrome portion should be painted black to make it look more like a 442. I simply left it chrome, because I feel it looked better being original as a Cutlass Supreme. Painting that back panel, and the portion around the tail lights black will be the decision of the new owner. Thank you for viewing my auction, and I hope whoever wants a cool old classic drop top to enjoy the rest of the summer wins tomorrow night at 7pm central time.
