*third time listing due to high bidders who could have asked questions important to them before the end of the auction - please be serious, call me or write if you have specific questions BEFORE the end of the auction. 1971 mercedes benz 280se 2.8L straight 6 cylinder cabriolet (cut coupe) SW111. very early conversion. these are all the numbers:VIN : 11102412003759block: 130 980 12028783block: e - 9.5 130 016 08 01cylinder head: 153624 engine bay:236 306 426 491 503 (515)180 G111024 12 7M 70098 91212 very little/insignificant rust on limited areas, no big bubbling, no rot, no other larger signs of cancer, just surface coloring underneath on some fitting. straight no-rust body, no rust in floors, no rust in firewall, no rust under chrome.see pictures. AC blows hard and blows cool, not cold, will need a charge. 67,000 believed original miles. in same family for the last 15+ years. garage kept and driven in nice weather only for last 15 years. i had committed to buy this car from a family that used it as their summer estate hopper and for jaunts into the nearby town, it was part of a bigger stable of cars used by the family in summer months only. family mechanic would come to the estate to service and repair all the cars. good they the cars has always been driven and maintained, but bad because they never did and still do not have interest in keeping any records. i cannot keep the car now. probably an older respray, but it was done to a very high quality original radio works but switching channels is temperamental. convertible top will need stretching and fitting from lack of use (top has been down at least 15+ years. this car was driven less than 300mi a year. engine starts instantly every single time and does not leak or smoke and purrs nicely, hiccups a little sometimes if it is cold but goes away when warm. brakes are good and grippy. original car that can be enjoyed for the summer now with minimal work or could be a good candidate for a bigger project. great driver. this is a good candidate for those wishing to drive the icon at a fraction of the cost of the 3.5L 1971 280se. also, the 6 is a tested and true engine that pulls nicely and is better on the gas than the pig V8. many more pictures, just ask. can be seen in westport anytime.
