BARN FIND! 1950 Pontiac Chieftain Silver Streak NR This listing is for: 1950 Pontiac Chieftain "Silver Streak" 6 Cylinder FLATHEAD, "3 on the Tree" 47,195 original miles About this item: We are helping on the sale of this one. Seller needs to clear the barn for replacement...selling this antique auto at No Reserve to the highest bidder. Description: What a GREAT barn find !! The owner says sell the car and everything with it, he has no time for it anymore. This is truly a hard to find ORIGINAL mileage Antique Automobile, show it as it sits or convert it to a Rat Rod or Lead Sled. Pontiac has always been one of the premier cars out of Detroit and this 1950 Chieftain is no exception. Up for sale to the HIGHEST BIDDER is a 1950 Pontiac Chieftain Silver Streak, 4 door, Flat Head V6 with 47,195 ORIGINAL miles on it. Yes... ORIGINAL MILES! The current owner bought this sometime back from the original owner located in a small town in North Dakota. It was fixed up a little and shown in local car shows as a true survivor class. The car has been sitting in this barn since 2007 and seems to have withstood the test of time. I will describe what I see as best as I can but PLEASE ask questions and requests pictures as needed to insure you have all information needed to make a purchase.. it will be selling. The car was pretty dirt when we pulled it out, but it shined up nicely. I'm only going to wash, vacuum and a little cleaner here an there so do NOT expect showroom condition, my job is to get it out and sold as the barn is coming down. This is a NO RESERVE auction, the car will be sold to the highest bidder. I have looked around a bit on the internet and find comparable cars for $15,000 in similar condition and mileage. Owner wants it sold so the opening bid on this is $5000. Winning bidder will be responsible for full payment on pickup and you will need to arrange transportation. That will run between $700 - $1000 depending on who you find. We will expect a deposit of 10% of selling price at the close of the auction, NO EXCEPTIONS. Pickup is expected within 10 days of auction end or arrangements will need to be made to hold longer. Let me describe what I see here, I will start on the outside and cover interior, engins and trunk. The paint is not original, it used to be dark gray on the bottom half and light gray on the roof. I can tell that from the dash which is still original paint. There are some minor nicks, and small chips but nothing major. There is a ton of chrome on this oldie, from bumper push bars, to rear fender tail fins. The chrome looks fairly nice, the front bumper has a spot that was straightened out, could use re-chrome to make it look better but not bad as is. I'm sure it will look better with some chrome polish and elbow grease. All windows look good, extra wind deflectors on the vents look sharp. There is a set of very RARE chrome bumperettes or sometime called Wing Guards with some of the spacers in a large spare parts box. Please see all of the spare parts pictures for more detail, those alone are selling on eBay for 10% of the opening bid, when you can find them. The original 6 volt system is still being used, even has the original 6 volt "long" battery. The engine looks very very nice, clean paint, newer hoses and wires, someone spent some time here. There is a glass windshield washer bottle and the oil bath, air breather looks good. There is a spare chrome air cleaner that was used for general driving and the original was put on at the shows I guess. The hinges for the massive hood are a little weak but hold the hood open enough for me to get in and take pictures. I did see a set of spare hinges in the spare parts as well.. still in the wrapper, so no issue with replacements. The engine turns over easily but doesn't fire. Owner has a full tune-up kit in the "parts box" that should remedy that. I will try to get it running but no guarantees. It has no spark it appears as it will not fire with starting fluid. There is a full tune-up kit has all ignition parts so I will try to replace some and see if that helps. Dual horns both work, there is spare 6 volt battery included, with a battery mount, it is the newer short style. Looks like most lights work, one fog light does not, unless you bump it. Inside dome light works, switched to the front doors only in this model. Glove box has a light, as well as the trunk. Turn signals work as well. I will try to round up a coil and get new ignition parts in, but no guarantee that I can get it running, I was paid to sell it not be the mechanic. Looks like original, yellow lens, fog lamps in the front mounted between the bumper and grill. The Indian on the hood DOES light up, very sharp (see pictures). The grill looks great as well but the center emblem on this looks faded, maybe used to be red (?). All tires are holding air, when I pulled it out they each had 20 PSI and I put them up to 30 lbs and they are all holding well. Wide whitewalls look good after initial cleaning, tread looks good, NO sidewall cracking and they are holding air just fine. The are older tires, have pictures if you would like to see more, please ask as I had to limit pictures for the listing The trunk was a real surprise. When I opened it up there was a basket with a ton of original paper documentation and some trunk parts like a jack and stand. The ORIGINAL owners manual is there, all Pontiac paperwork delivered when it was purchased new right down to a US Roadmap. There is a service and maintenance manual as even a church service bulletin from N.D. circa 1964. There are a few newer Pontiac emblems and signage included, the key fob is even the original Chief Pontiac profile. There are two sets of keys to this classic car. Please be sure to look at all the pictures included for more detail. The spare time is a little worn, unsure if it fits, does have an "extra" sombrero style hubcap on it. Even the cardboard rear seat cover in the trunk is there... wow. Car rolled out of the barn easily, but some rust on the brake drums as I did hear a little scraping noise but nothing bad. Brakes worked, steers fine, hopefully I can get it running to drive. Looks like most everything is still original, brakes, shocks, springs etc. Owner says it drives like a boat, but rides like a dream... haha. Shocks are good, undercarriage has only light surface rust, NO ROT... which is a testament to what GM and Detroit used to do when American Cars ruled the road. Of course this car has been sitting for a few years so expect to have some cleaning and loosening up things. Car rolled out of the barn easily, but some rust on the brake drums as I did hear a little scraping noise but nothing bad. Brakes worked, steers fine, hopefully I can get it running to drive. For being 62 years old this classic Pontiac is in very very good condition. Slight smell but its all original fabric so that is to be expected... getting better each day as the weather allows me to keep the door open. The interior is maybe the only detraction from a really really nice antique classic. The headliner is stained in a few places, looks like it was replaced. The owner says he has another headliner somewhere, I will try to find it and send along with the other parts. The seats look like original mohair Gray material and have a few holes here and there. There is a rust colored stain on the front seats, maybe from storage. The back seat is better than the front but both look good with that classic "Indian blanket" you see in these classic rides. The inside door trim is good, some minor surface rust starting on a couple small spots but all in all everything inside is solid. Floor boards are solid, all handles are in place, windows and vents all work... even has the rear heater vent option. There is an AM radio (tube type) that does turn on, but very faint sound. The gas gauge appears to NOT be working as it reads E but there is gas in the tank. There is a dash mounted prism to enable the driver to see the overhead street lights which are blocked a bit by the full exterior sunvisor. This is the first year a car had an "inside" hood latch, pretty cool. This classis car even has some fuzzy dice... what else could you want? I will tell you what you want... spare parts. There is a huge tote of spare parts that goes WITH this car, many are still in the boxes as NOS. Also many chrome parts including a full set of show quality bumperettes or wing guards. I see a vintage Purolator oil filter in the box (Kit-428E), two Wadner wheel cylinder repair kits (FC3609), a few gas filter elements (86034) and various ignition parts, including a full tune up kit. There is a fuel level gauge kit, a Felpro gasket set (FS7273C), complete, and a carburetor rebuild kit as well. Even see a spare Carter WA-1 carb (used) and a fuel pump too (lused). There are two universal joints in the boxes, extra door jams, even some original wind deflectors in red and green color in the original boxes as well. I also found a NOS clutch assembly and clutch plate as well as new hood springs. Take a look at the pictures for yourself to see more detail, but seems like you can fix whatever is wrong and have plenty of parts for future repairs as needed. PLEASE NOTE: If the car does not sell, the owner says he may sell the parts in a single lot to the highest bidder... but this car should sell with all these spare parts included. I have steam cleaned the seats, headliner, carpet, door panels and it's looking better each day... moving on to try and get this beast running and take it for a road test. It has been a long time since I ran a "3 on the tree" and looking forward to seeing how this car drives. No promises as I will need to round up a coil and change out the tune up parts and she should kick over. These old cars are fairly easy.. spark, ground or fuel are the main issues in most cases. Asked my dad who is 85 and he says that it is usually something with a "C" on no spark.. Cap, Capacitor, or Coil. Be sure to look at all the spare parts that are included with this classis Pontiac...
