Vehicle Detail
1986 Buick Grand National A few words before jumping into a detailed description. This car has been sitting in my pole barn the past several years collecting dust since its overhaul/ restoration about three years now. More details will follow in the description below. I was able to get the car running but runs poorly and will need to be towed or put on a trailer to its destination. I would prefer to sell it to someone who will finish the car and get it back on the road for the enjoyment of it and not someone looking to turn a fast buck on a resale or a dealer looking to line his own pocket. In other words… I am looking for a good home for this car for someone who appreciates it. Please do not ask me what I want for the car… let the auction run its course. I will not sell to overseas buyers, or those asking to buy the car, send a money order for some outrageous amount for me to cover shipping. Been down that scam road…am not doing it again. ALL SALES ARE FINAL! AS-IS. Don’t buy the car and try to return it after a week. I will not honor any return. DON’T BID IF YOU DON’T WANT. If you want more pictures or a question…e-mail me with what you like to see or discuss and I will get back to you a.s.a.p. Also the condition of ANYTHING… is all a point of view. What I see as excellent someone else see as poor or junk. As stated…if you want more pictures or description in particular… just ask. You make your own judgment. Sorry to have to go on with this introduction but I am trying to make things as clear as I can from previous bad experiences with these situations. ENGINE/TRANSMISSION : Original 3.8 (231 c.u.) engine. Engine is bored .30 over with a cam about one step over stock, nothing radical. Roller rocker arms. Injectors were replaced with also one step over stock. Upgraded fuel pressure regulator. Direct wiring upgrade to fuel pump. Stock fuel pump . New Timing gears and chain. New cam sensor. Stock oiling system. New radiator. Turbo has maybe about 800 miles on it but was replaced with a GM unit. Has a cold air intake installed. New piston rings, heads redone, mains and rod bearings. ECM was bad but replaced with a stock computer but upgraded chip. Pretty much a complete overhaul/rebuild in simpler words. BAD NEWS : I was able to get the car running but very poorly. Over rich as black smoke and miss fires out the exhaust. I have changed the mass airflow and messed with the timing with no success. No one seems to want to help me diagnose the problem. It does not trip any trouble codes. Transmission is stock unit but was rebuilt with a 10 vane pump to compensate for the weaker 8 vane stock. A shift kit was also installed. BAD NEWS: The transmission shifts and works fine in 1st gear but winds out and doesn’t shift into 2nd. Reverse works fine. Could be just the cable needs readjusted and reset. EXTERIOR BODY/PAINT/CONDITION : The car is a t-top car. When I had it ,didn’t leak BUT you might want to consider new seals. The paint is about three years old, base clear. All bodywork was professionally done. New rocker replaced on drivers side. Car is dusty but has been stored inside. I did not put the emblems back on the car. I think I have them someplace but you might want to replace with new ones. All glass is intact with no damage or cracks. INTERIOR/CLIMATE CONTROLS: The seats are like brand new. Not reupholstered . Carpet is original. Headliner replaced with a one piece unit.. Very nice over the stock foam fabric combo. Dash is original with no cracks or splits. Steering wheel is stock but horn doesn’t work. Radio is a non stock cassette player. Climate controls do work… AS FAR AS I KNOW. I never had it running long enough to re test them after rebuild. The A/C condenser as well as the pump are new as well as the A/C lines. Will need recharged with the 134 refrigerant. The trunk has been fitted with the carpeted panels for a cleaner look. TIRES/RIMS/BRAKES/SUSPENSION/EHAUST: Tires are brand new , zero miles! The rims are stock Grand National rims With turbo logo caps. Brakes are stock units, no upgrades. They need to be bled out as the pedal sinks to the floor. I don’t think It needs a new unit but not positive. I do know before being driven they need checked or replaced or at least freed for smooth operation. Suspension pieces are all stock units. The exhaust system still retains the original manifolds but has an oversized crossover, turbo down pipe, a test pipe in place of converter and 2 ½ inch pit bull dual stainless exhaust pipes. Has the two muffler set up…not the single stock sideways mount of the original. So all in all … you would be getting a nearly fully restored car with only some minor work needed to get back on the road. The buyer is responsible for pick and delivery of car. No checks, no money orders… been down that road with counterfeit money orders as well.
