Vehicle Detail

I am selling my 1959 Mercury Monterey. It is stunning, elegant, immaculate, and original. She’s been meticulously cared for in climate controlled storage all her life, and the exterior, interior, and mechanics are all in excellent condition. This car is a head-turner and crowd pleaser whenever I take her out. I personally believe that the 1959 model year had the classiest model design ever, with a stylish exterior, graceful lines, and attractive detail throughout. The unique styling sets this car apart from the other 50’s cars and is something you won’t find at every car show. I’ve owned the car for 3 years and am the 3rd owner. Exterior: The body is in great shape. The car was repainted some years ago in the same color as original – silver beige - and is shiny and glossy. Straight as an arrow, no rust and no bondo that I’m aware of, and the previous owner had stainless steel rocker panels installed. Underbody is also good and solid. You will love the beautiful grill and headlights, the fashionable roof overhang in the rear, the distinctive taillights, and the chrome styling throughout the car. There is some very minor pitting on the back chrome. All windows and window seals, including vent windows, work and are in great shape. All door and trunk locks work. Trunk is super clean and even has the original affixed instructions on how to change a flat tire. Tires are the wide whitewalls and in great shape. Interior: I believe the interior is all original except for newer carpeting. The inside is as meticulous as the outside. There are 2 minor imperfections: the passenger seat has a very small wear spot (looks like cigarette ash might have got on it) and there’s a small tear on the backside of rear seat near the rear deck (right side). Both seem like a one time incident because the seat fabric is not worn and is still very durable. As you can see in the pictures the dashboard is beautiful and super stylish. Gauges work (fuel, engine temperature, oil and generator lights) as does the thermometer-style speedometer (really cool) and odometer. Radio turns on but just plays static. Lights work (interior, headlights, high beam, brake, etc.) as does the windshield wipers, clock, horn, cigarette lighter, heat, fan, and vents. The original car manual is in the glovebox. Chrome, door panels, seats (except as mentioned above), headliner, etc. is all in excellent condition. Mechanical: The working odometer is currently at 47,883 miles. Since I'm not the original owner I can’t say for certain, but I feel strongly that the mileage is accurate given the overall excellent appearance of the exterior and interior. The car runs great mechanically and I never had any problems. The engine is a 312 V8. It starts easily and runs smoothly and quietly. The automatic transmission (merc-o-matic) shifts well and there are no leaks (pretty good for a 53 year old car!). The car did not come equipped with power steering or power brakes. When I bought the car 3 years ago, the previous owner told me he had recently had the carburetor rebuilt, replaced the fuel pump, rebuilt the front end, and put in new brakes, hoses, lines, cylinders. I drive this car on the highway and would feel comfortable driving her anywhere. I’ve tried to describe my car accurately and honestly, but I’m not a tinkerer or mechanical so I invite you to check out the car personally or have it professionally inspected if you’d like. Feel free to call me at 845-521-2292 with any questions. I’m selling the car locally so I reserve the right to end this auction early if necessary. Please note that New York (where my car is registered) does not issue titles for cars older than 1972. Ownership is transferred by signing over the registration (you can check New York’s DMV web site to verify this if you want). Please do not bid unless you are prepared to purchase. $500 deposit must be received within 24 hours of auction's end (paypal is accepted). Full payment must be received within 7 days of auction's end by cash, wire transfer, or certified bank check - Paypal is NOT accepted. All funds must be cleared before car leaves. Car must be picked up within 7 days of auction close. I will gladly assist if you plan on shipping, but you will need to make the arrangements and are responsible for all shipping charges. Good Luck. You will love this car.On Aug-14-12 at 14:03:01 PDT, seller added the following information: 8/14/2012: I've been asked if I could post more pictures, If you'd like to see them, you can go to: http://s1075.photobucket.com/albums/w431/ourpicsplace/1959%20Mercury%20Monterey/?albumview=slideshow&track=share_email_album_view_click
