Vehicle Detail

Presenting a beautiful jet black '1957 Porsche Speedster' recreation designed and assembled by famed builder Classic Motor Carriage, with motor and mechanicals built by legendary VW tuner Gene Berg. This example is simply among the best Speedster tributes you will ever encounter. The paint is beautiful, rich, straight and even across (especially considering it is now 30 years old). The mechanicals are just amazingly tuned and dialed in. Much more on that below... First a little background: Classic Motor Carriage (or CMC) was the original company to design a Speedster "tribute" car, and has been known for years as a premiere manufacturer of such. While many manufacturers simply drop a 356 shaped fiberglass tub on top of an old Volkswagen chassis, the Classic reproduction is known for being produced as close to the original and famed Porsche specs as possible (actually around 11.7" shorter than a typical VW chassis). Among the famed Speedsters production run, was a special limited edition, factory built "Special" of about 2,000 cars. This is number 1092, and tagged in the door as such. This limited edition run included a higher build and paint quality, and only top shelf components used to complete. The example offered here, is a fine testament to the original Classic Speedster build and quality. Lovingly maintained and sparingly used since built, this car has traveled just over 9,000 miles. It is finished in the quintessential Porsche black, trimmed in Savannah beige, and includes many original speedster parts. In fact, Classic Speedster has claimed and documented that over 90% of the parts on a Classic Speedster are interchangeable with an original Porsche. Car & Driver and many other enthusiast magazines have marveled at how a well finished "Classic Speedster is nearly indistinguishable from the original. This Classic Speedster comes with a Gene Berg built, dual Weber carbed, 'Super' engine. With the relative feather light curb weight (approx 1585 lbs) of this car, and the additional HP, it simply flies. With the near 50/50 weight distribution (46/54 to be exact), the handling is incredible as well. Here is a detailed rundown of the highlights of this awesome example: *Black with tan trim and convertible top and side curtains (all fully functional) *Tan leatherette seats & trim, with black carpet *White gauge faces *CB three point seat belts *Newer Kuhmo Power Star tires (185/65R-15 *4 speed manual trans with CNC hydraulic performance clutch (very heavy and strong) *Lowered independent rear suspension *Full width roll bar with rear braces to chassis *Newer Die Hard battery *Gene Berg VW motor making over 130HP at 6500 RPM *AS41 dual relief brazilian engine case *counter weighted forged crank (69.0mm) *Gene Berg reworked connecting rods *CIMA/Mahle pistons/rings/cylinders (90.5mm) *Total seal second piston ring *chrome moly steel push rods *solid rocker shaft kit *swivel foot valve adjusters *lightened 200mm doweled flywheel *200mm stage 1 Kennedy clutch, solid disk *dual Weber 40 IDF carbs w/GB linkage *Gene Berg 300 high performance cam *Gene Berg ported/polished cylinder heads with dual valve springs *fully balanced (pistons, rods, crank, flywheel, clutch, crank pulley, clutch) *welded/balanced cooling fan *Gene Berg crankcase breather *Monza 4 tip exhaust w/'J' tubes (no heater boxes) *009 distributor with compu-fire solid state ignition *8mm silicone plug wires *CB oil pump w/spin off oil filter *CB fuel regulator w/mini gauge A few notes for the discriminating eye: *There are a few small scratches and stone chips, consistent with a 9k mile car. Paint is beautiful *Some chrome trim (which appears original Porsche and shows nice patina) is pitted *Includes a full tonneau cover as well, which works great, but shows some use *Upper edge of door leatherette trim shows some sun fading *Typical bit of play in shift lever *Fuel gauge only seems to function properly when full - might just be a stuck float After the feeling of a drive a Speedster, not to mention the attention one gets within, there's no question why these cars have had the following of everyone from Hollywood royalty (James Dean!), to discriminating auto collectors the world over. Top tier Porsche aficionados have made the 356 Speedster model the cornerstone Porsche for any complete collection. I have owned dozens of Porsches (& still have too many - if that's possible), and this car has fit beautifully and been thoroughly enjoyed within my collection. The relative maintanance free, high reliability aspect of it, makes it a joy to own. True Porsche Speedsters now fetch upwards of $200,000. Own this stunning and true re-creation for about 10% of the original. I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person prior to buying or bidding. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. I have owned over 50 Porsches, and am picky about my cars, but potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS, no warranty expressed or implied. I can help with very reasonable shipping arrangements, but transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email or call me at 574-361-5315 with any questions, more details, or if you'd like to make an offer. Many more pics are available. Good luck! Call FIVE SEVEN FOUR-361-5315 for more info, to discuss, or make an appointment to see the car in person. I will consider reasonable offers, but don't "need" to sell this car, and don't even really want to (just need some space in garage!), so please no low-ballers.
