All photos are of the actual car being offered for auction. Additional photos can be seen at http://sdrv.ms/N7kjGq This wonderful 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto is being offered for sale after recently completing a 4-year restoration. I bought this car five years ago as a tired, but solid and rust free project car that had spent most of its life in Utah before being brought to North Carolina. The car has just finished an extensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration including a complete engine rebuild, bare metal paint job, new clutch and thrust bearing, complete rebuild of the brakes, and installation of a new Hartz cloth top, new carpets, Nardi steering wheel, and a dash cap. The seats and door panels are in excellent condition and did not have t be replaced. In addition an alternator was installed in place of the factory generator, and five new Panasport wheels with Bridgestone Potenza tires were added. During the restoration, we discovered that the car had suffered a minor fender bender many years before, which had impacted the passenger side headlight. The area was repaired by welding in a new headlight and upper nose cap assembly from Wolf Steel. We then took the exterior panels down to bare metal before repainting. Also, during the rebuild, the car suffered a minor engine fire which necessitated a new wiring harness for the engine bay as well as rebuilding the Weber carburetors, installation of all new hoses and flexible ducts in the engine bay, and a installing a replacement fuse terminal. The car is tremendous fun to drive with a very strong engine, and a transmission that shifts like the proverbial hot knife through butter, without any of the typical 2nd gear crunching noises. We have racked up around 350 miles on the car since the restoration, and it has performed flawlessly. The following is a complete list of the work that has been done since I owned the car. · Complete engine rebuild including the cylinder head and the bottom end · Professionally refurbished Weber DCOE 40 carburetors · Refurbishment of the intake plenum and air filter assembly · Ceramic coating of the exhaust manifold · Complete new Ansa exhaust system · Refurbishment of the differential and axle assembly · Rebuild master cylinder assembly · New mechanical fuel pump · New timing chain · New clutch and thrust bearing · Replacement of 90% of the wiring harness · Installation of a 123 brand electronic distributor from Classic Alfa · New motor mounts · New Nardi 390mm steering wheel · New front turn signal modules from Classic Alfa ($170 each) · New tail light assemblies from Classic Alfa ($105 each) · New lollipop rear reflector from Classic Alfa ($55 each) · New back-up light · Replacement of generator with an alternator · Five new Panasport 15 X 6 wheels and five new Bridgestone Potenza 195/65/15 tires · New suspension components in the front including shocks, springs, ball joints, and bushings · All new hoses and flexible ducts in the engine bay · Rebuild the radiator and pressure test · New coolant reservoir · New high quality carpeting · New top – professionally installed · Replaced the sun visors · High quality bare metal paint job · Engine and transmission were pulled to paint the engine bay. The trunk was not painted. The car also comes with the clear plexi headlight covers, which I decided not to install. Also included are a set of custom seat belts, not installed. The Duetto originally did not come with seat belts, and these belts are custom designed by a specialist in California to go into this car. In addition, the original jack, the front license plate bracket, and the drape assembly for the folded top come with the car. Sorry, the original wheels and tires are not available. OTHER COMMENTS: A tremendous amount of work and money has been spent on this wonderful car; however it was restored with the intention of using it as a weekend fun car. It is not a show queen to be put on a trailer and hauled around. Having said that, the Duetto has never been rained on since I have owned it, and it appears to have been kept in covered storage throughout its life. Since it is driven, it has picked up a couple of hairline scratches where people have rubbed up against the paint work when they were looking at the car, and there are two very small chips in the paint that are not down to bare metal. In addition the new cloth top has sustained some normal shrinkage and needs to be readjusted by a competent specialist. The exterior door handles and the rear hooks for the top are showing minor corrosion and should be buffed out. The front and rear bumpers are rust free and ding free, but they also need to be polished. I have a clear North Carolina title to the car in my name. I have a fair reserve price on the car that reflects fair market value, but it doesn’t even come close to recovering all the money that has been put into this project. Out of respect to all the bidders in this auction, I will not reveal the reserve price until after the auction is finished. I am only selling the car to finance another project, and, to be honest, I will miss this particular Alfa. All in all, this Duetto is a wonderful example of one of Alfa’s iconic designs that has been restored to a high standard. It is a driver’s car that will give years of reliable service, and I hope will provide as many great memories for the new owner as it has for me.
