I have been admiring/collecting the iconic Toyota FJs for many years and this one came along and took my breath away. Take it from me an avid FJ collector. This is one of the best available on the market. Original condition and original paint with absolutely no rust! Rare Toyota dealer installed accent stripes on sides and hood still intact. Previously owned by a high level Toyota executive from Southern California. Owned in his private collection for four years. Prior to this it was owned for 6 years by a retired LA fire captain. Garaged in Torrance California. Prior to that it was owned by a Family that lived in Victorville California that purchased it new. This car has never seen dirt! I purchased it regularly to drive but selling because my work will require me to travel for the next two years. There are many restored FJ's available but very seldom do you see one with original paint and in this pristine condition. You can only be original once and this is a great example. Mustard yellow with the factory 2F 4.2L 6 cylinder motor and bullet proof 4 speed manual transmission. 1978 is the first year of electronic ignition. She is still wearing her original steel factory wheels and caps. The car has been kept in flawless top notch mechanical condition. Everything works- lights, vents, fan, odometer, speedo etc. I still have the original jack and original owners manual. Dash is original all original nothing to restore or replace. The front factory rubber toyota floor mat is impeccable condition. She has received some refreshing over the years. Her seats have been recovered with cloth which is very comfortable compared to the vinyl and never scorching hot in the sun. The headliner has been replaced with a factory oem Toyota FJ 40 headliner. See the pics below. The interior is beautiful and does not need anything. Recent work from 2/1/2012 includes new front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, thermostat, master cylinder, clutch master cylinder, water pump, all coolant hoses, thermo vacuum switch, new BF Goodrich Mud Terrain 33 inch tires (33x10.50x15). Other past work include Old Man Emu suspension for smoother ride and upgraded off road performance. Power steering was added by first owner at the dealer for better driveability. Newer factory Toyota battery. The paint shows amazingly well for a 34 year old car. The patina is oozing and it should be kept this way for future collectibility. Think survivor and preservation. Values of these "original" classics are rapidly increasing as the market is slim for one of these beauties. You be the judge. It really does show this well in person :) The underbody frame is super clean and mint. Chassis, frame, floors, doors, etc are all perfect. The VIN stamp on right front frame rail is super legible and clear. No rust anywhere. Body panels still have the original factory metal stamp marks which indicate no prior bondo or bodywork. The car runs and drives perfectly. Starts right up and has that healthy FJ sound. Only one I heard that makes that crisp well maintained idle you get from a well cared for motor. You mechanics and car buffs with trained ears can understand what I mean. It does not have any hard time idling. No smoke. No weird sounds. She shifts so crisp and clean that it will bring a tear to your eye. Its like being in a time capsule and driving one off the showroom floor. There is nothing she needs mechanically.
