Vehicle Detail
I hate to do it, buy I’m selling our 1941 Packard 120 4 door sedan. My dad and I bought this car about 20 years ago and have had a lot of fun with it, but it’s time to let it go. This car is the true definition of ‘A Survivor’. Other than the paint and the tires, EVERYTHING is original. I believe it was probably painted about 40 years ago, but we’ve stored it indoors for its entire life, and the previous owners kept it inside as well. The car runs and drives and shifts through all the gears nicely, I just had the carburetor professionally rebuilt with new style gaskets that won’t get eaten up by the new gas. It has an auxiliary electric fuel pump also. This is the straight flathead 8 cylinder with the 3 speed on the column. I just put a brand new battery in it about a week ago. We used to drive it more often, but just don’t get to take it out very often so we need to sell it. I know the previous owners and know that the car was bought here in Arizona and has been here its entire life. I believe that we’re the second owners. There isn’t any rust anywhere on the car. The fenders, running boards, frame, floorboards, gas tank, etc… are perfect without even any surface rust. The doors, hoods, and trunk open and close nicely. None of the windows are cracked and they all roll up and down. The interior has seen better days about 50 years ago, but is intact with all of the trim pieces, knobs, handles, etc… On the outside, every single door and fender panel lines up nicely with the rest of the body, and all of the trim pieces, moldings and grills are intact. We put a set of Coker wide whites on it about 10-12 years ago, and they still hold air and drive nicely without any flat spots. The brakes kind of hang up a little and pull to the left when you drive it, so the wheel cylinders might need to be rebuilt. The electrical has a couple of issues as well (cloth wiring), so you would need to keep an eye on that also. We planned on restoring it when it finally broke down, but it just kept running. The car is 100% complete and original, so we hated to start taking it apart to restore it because of the charisma that it has. Sometimes you can still get a whiff of Bonnie and Clyde’s machine gun smoke. Otherwise, the pictures speak for themselves, there isn’t a better example of an original 71 year old car out there. The car has a clean Arizona title with no liens. I’ve also posted a couple of youtube links below so you can hear the car running and driving. This is a ‘NO RESERVE’ auction, so who knows where the bidding will go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KU8UzTb5eY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZrb-jcfFhQ A deposit of $500 will be due within 48 hours of the auction ending through Paypal, and the remainder due within 10 days. It is your responsibility for picking up the vehicle and transporting it. Even though the car runs and drives, I would not recommend driving it very far until a little bit more TLC has been done to it. The vehicle must be picked up within 14 days of the auction ending, otherwise there will be storage fees incurred, I am not a car dealer or a storage yard, I’m a private individual. Do not bid unless you have the money and these guidelines can be followed. On Aug-01-12 at 07:57:40 PDT, seller added the following information: The odometer has not worked since we bought it, 20 years ago. I have no idea what the actual mileage is. But I think the car speaks for itself as far as overall condition.
