Vehicle Detail
Car is being relisted (at no reserve!) due to 'winning bidder' and would be buyer defaulting on the transaction. Please read the description closely, and if you choose, please come inspect the car prior to bidding or buying. Also, PLEASE have your finances together before bidding. Now, on to the show... Presenting a very nice 1973 Porsche 914 2.0 in Bahia Red (color code L 30E) with the super desirable appearance group option. This car has been well maintained, is extremely solid (unlike many 914s), and runs great. As often is the case, the original fuel injection has been switched out for a dual carb set up. Other than that, the car remains essentially in stock condition. It has had an original color repaint (driver quality, would need redone for show purposes, fine as is for street, autocross, track use), and is otherwise original. The '73 model year is undoubtedly the most desirable of all the 914s as it has the updated side shift transmission, as well as the appearance trim and other options originally found on the 914-6 that it followed, but not the bulky bumpers found on the 1974-76 cars. And without a doubt, from a power and performance standpoint, the 2.0s are the only cars to own. The interior is original stock, and in fantastic shape (a couple requisite dash cracks, barely noticable). Seats are excellent. Of course the big issue with these cars is always the tin worm. This one is amazingly solid, with only a few small surface bubbles on the body. The floors are rock solid, the front trunk is amazingly clean and rust free (& houses a full spare tire with original Fuch wheel), and the rear trunk shows only light surface as well. The rockers were replaced with non-corrosive fiberglass panels at some point, so no issue there. One of the tell tales of the structural state of a 914 is the door closing test (I've seen examples that the doors have to be lifted to close!). These doors close perfectly and solidly with just the tap of the finger. Some of the best I've seen on a driver. A full service was recently performed, and is up to date, and the car also just benefitted from all new front braking system as well as new exhaust, and a new throttle pedal assembly. There is still a bit of fade in the brakes, so rear pads will likely be in order for the next owner. A few other considerations for the new owner to pursue while enjoying this classic roadster are: * Rear brake pads (as mentioned). * Odometer has stopped working (as they usually do). Reads 30k miles & change, but car is TMU. It is, of course, mileage exempt for titling purposes. * Center gauges not currently connected * small dent in rear chrome bumper (car comes with brand new replacement!).* Original rubber bumper pads showing age with cracks. Inexpensive replacements readily available. * Some paint chips, spots, etc. Paint is "driver quality". A 3-5 footer. * Custom on/off ignition toggle (for fuel pump). Can provide a brand new igntion switch if desired. * Very small oil leak - as with all air cooled Porsches. The beauty of this car is that it is nice and reliable enough to enjoy regularly and with pride, but not so nice that you're afraid to take it out and use as intended. 914s are rapidly appreciating, and like the early 911s that lead, may soon be out of reach for the casual enthusiast. Current "Excellence Mag" market values on these cars are between $12,5-16,800. They can be seen here, along with a great write up on the evolution and attributes of these cars: http://www.excellence-mag.com/resources/buyers-guide/856880138. This is a nice car being offered well below the "low" market price! I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person prior to buying or bidding. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. I have owned over 50 Porsches, and am picky about my cars, but potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS, no warranty expressed or implied. I can help with very reasonable shipping arrangements, but transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email or call me at 574-361-5315 with any questions, more details, or if you'd like to make an offer. Many more pics are available. Good luck!
