Vehicle Detail
1969 Mercury Cougar XR7. Factory M Code (290hp) 351W, FMX auto, pwr disc brakes, pwr steering, 9 inch rear axle w/3.00 gears (non-posi.) Factory non A/C, non pwr window, non pwr seat XR7! Rare! Numbers matching original 4bbl 290hp 351W. Runs good. Over the years the motor has had a gear drive, Edelbrock intake and period correct hooker headers installed, all prior to my ownership. The FMX transmission has had a Trans-go shift kit installed as well. I dismantled a great deal of this car four years ago to start a simple, non frame up, restoration but have realized that I will probably not be able to finish this project within the next few years and now it's really just taking up valuable garage space. Prior to starting the restoration, I installed all brand new brakes so they are not a concern anymore. This is a factory maroon (most of the paint has been removed down to bare metal) with black vinyl top and dark red leather interior, yes factory leather...the rear seat is in good shape however the fronts need to be reupholstered. and the carpet replaced. The door panels are presentable but speaker holes have been cut into them...easily covered up by factory optional speaker grilles. There is some rust. The floors and frame rails are solid with only one area on the passenger front which I have already removed. It is above the torque box, but you can easily look inside and see it's solid as well. The area under the battery box is also rotted away. I will be including a new front right floor patch and fender apron. The areas of rust through on the outer body have been cut out already and are awaiting the patches welded in. The right door and quarter panel do need some minor straightening as well. I have 6 front fenders that go too, none of them are perfect, but more than enough to build two useable ones of out, 1 trunk lid and a total of three doors. Not all of this is absolutely necessary, I just collected what came available. I will also include with the car an original (not to car though) factory '69 Cougar Rim Blow steering wheel. It needs some minor attention and a lot of cleaning but it in itself is nearly impossible to find. This is still a major project, but could easily be reassembled without too terribly much effort and money. I would recommend rebuilding the motor since I have no idea how many miles are on it, but it does run fine. I can produce pictures taken during the disassembly which also show it's current state, as well as the VIN clearly stamped in several places...one of which is the engine block, but I'm not going to spend countless hours emailing everyone pictures unless they're genuinely interested.
