Vehicle Detail
I purchased this vehicle about 3 years ago as a project vehicle. I initially drove it regularly for about 6 months and then drove it very little since. The good: The body is straight. Same with the chassis as far as I can tell. The engine runs well and does not leak. I was told by the previous owner that he had overhauled the engine a year prior to my purchase. The transmission shifts smoothly and also does not leak. The interior is in great shape. Seats are like new. The interior door panels are new metal aftermarket replacements for the plastic OEM style panels. All signal lights are working since last checked. The aluminum wheels that I bought it with were cracked so I replaced them with much stronger new steel wheels. Tire tread is very good although compound may be aging now. The bad: The brakes are in good condition although the brake booster and master cylinder seals leaked and may need replacing prior to driving. Otherwise the FJ is drivable. Speedo is not working but it likely just requires a cable replacement. Although, therefore the miles are unknown. I purchased the FJ knowing that it does not shift into 4x4. Trouble shooting was not a priorety of mine or the prior owner. It could be as little as a stuck linkage issue or it could be the transfer case. There is some body rust in the typical locations but I myself did not consider it significant issue as a project vehicle. In addition, the FJ must have been painted by the previous owner. It is fading and chipping in some areas. Again, not a significant issue as a project vehicle. See my Flickr link for high res pictures... http://flic.kr/s/aHsjAc6Xe5
