Vehicle Detail

I purchased this classic car as its 3rd owner unrestored in October 2004 and have put maybe less than 500 miles on it during my entire ownership. The previous owner treated it as a prized possession and it shows due to the rust free state of the car upon my purchase and original paint, etc. My original intention was to build a street worthy/daily driven race car back then. The car has a much coveted fully functioning Behr Factory air conditioning system and to me all it needed was a good paint job and some engine upgrades. It even had GRP fender flares front and back that simulated the Alpina look. The body panels including GRP bits are straight, including bright work and glass and the car is rust free. No rust in the inner fenders, front or rear or trunk area which were prone areas of rust to these early cars. In early January of 2005, the car was dismantled completely in preparation for paint and the body was chemically scraped to metal and then finally repainted BMW CSL Red from its factory original Metallic Gold at a local paint shop. The cost of paint alone was $4k and was completed mid March of 2005. The engine was sent out to the now defunct Bavarian Masters in Van Nuys, CA and was completely reconditioned and detailed at a total cost of over $4k as well. Feel free to inspect the engine innards state before purchase. Upon receiving the car back from the paint shop, the car sat under a canopy in my backyard and it unfortunately sat for six years undisturbed due to my ever changing and diverse automotive interests. A few months ago, I employed some local mechanics for in home service and began the task of putting her back together again. The exterior body ancillaries were cleaned and reinstalled as well as the interior accessories, seats, sidings, etc. The car was given a complete wash and finally the reconditioned engine that remained dormant in our covered garage for many years from the rebuilders had been mated again with its long lost chassis. The car comes with a fully rebuilt dual sidedraft Mikuni Solex PH44 carburetors with brand new Korman Engineering beveled manifold and linkage, Stahl header, Big valves, Carillos, Schrick cam and a Tii distributor. The wheels are original 13" BBS with new Sumitomo 195/50/13 tires. Bilstein front struts and rear shocks with the Bilstein rears needing a refill. The car also has aftermarket sway bars front and rear. From the header back the exhaust is new and in stock diameter. Before it sat it had brand new brake rotors and pads. During installation of the engine back to the car many brand new parts were utilized like supports, center bearings, etc. All fluids, including engine motor oil, coolant, hydraulic oils, gear oil were flushed and are new. The interior is complete and original with the dashboard having some minor hairline cracks. The instrumentation panels are immaculate and are all functioning. The seats and sidings are all original and shows off very well. The headliner has some paint over spray and needs to be replaced to be perfect. A pair of driver and passenger rubber weatherstrip door channels needs to be purchased as the old ones have long been discarded during paint preparation. The paint although brand new 8 years ago has suffered scratches and minor dings through the years of sitting in the backyard and needs to be wet sanded and re-polished and in some areas retouched as some scratch sizes are noticeable. The AC is guaranteed to blow very cold but only after a reload of refrigerant which was evacuated during the dismantling process for painting and engine refreshing. The car needs a battery which incidentally has been relocated to the trunk of the car. A battery which was borrowed from another car was utilized by the mechanics to start this car. The gas tank and fuel pump is brand new. A brand new replacement radiator is included but not installed since the old radiator is perfect. The car needs an inspection and has to be road tested before putting back on the street as I have not done that since the engine was fired up due to the car having no valid vehicle registration and insurance. The car is titled in Illinois, clear and under my name. Registration in California was filed in 2005 but incomplete since I was never able to bring to DMV for physical inspection. I am selling AS-IS and the new owner should be prepared to tow it out at their own expense and location.
