Vehicle Detail
This is a 1966 Ford F250 4x4. I have 84 pictures of every detail I could think of along with some repeats so I'd have plenty to choose from to put on this site. You can view these additional photos on photobucket... There are a lot of good close up shots of anything that would be considered an issue and a lot that just show how solid this thing is. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v505/rwolfejr0069/Red%20Truck/ Please read this entire description before buying. If you are nearby I'd suggest you come on over and look at it in person. I'm going to do my best to fill you in on every detail of this truck. I might miss something so ask questions if there's something you want to know. This truck is being sold as is with no warranty. It is what it is, and if you buy it it's yours. O.K. so now about the truck. We'll go with the "Good, Bad and the Ugly" approach. (If I could add the theme song from that movie that'd be awesome...!) The Good... The truck is very solid. Door jambs are excellent. Bed is solid no holes. Bed humps aren't all banged up. Bed sides are solid. All lips and edges around the bottom are solid. Doors, Fenders, Inner Fenders, Frame are all solid. Runs good. Four wheel drive works fine. Transmission and transfer case are fine. Inspected about two months ago. Frame is clean and solid. It's a good solid truck that can be driven daily. Not a show truck but could be spiffed up to be one if you wanted without a lot of $$. The Bad... I'm gonna try to tell you everything I can think of here... Motor leaks some. Tranny might dribble a little not certain. One of the exhaust manifolds leaks a little. (Although I did replace the rest of the exhaust recently) I'm not 100% certain if this is a 390 or a 360, or a 352. Basically the same motor but don't know which it is. When I bought it I was told it was a 390? (I bought it from a guy in Utah by the way) (Also... I just put a new Petronix electronic distributor in it along with a new coil. Also just put a new starter in it...) The tires are Firestone Destinations and fair and inspectable but not new. All the lights and gages work but sometimes the interior lights go out so the dimmer switch will need replaced. No glovebox insert but I'm including a new one I bought for it. The seat is tore up and I have new red upholstery and a foam kit for it that I'm also including with this. I was going to replace it but after removing the lower seat hog rings I decided that the new owner should do this. The seat frame ought to be painted before putting the upholstery on. I don't feel like doing the "right way" and figured the new owner can do it however they want. I removed and threw away the floor carpet. I wanted to show the floor and the carpet was a mess and had tears in it. Which reminds me of one of the biggest issues on this truck. The previous owner put a sunroof in this and it leaks a little. The roof was also scraped in shipment and revealed bondo in the roof in front of the sunroof that was used to blend the sunroof into the dip that runs through the middle of the roof, and it has since cracked. I suspect that this is where the water leaks in. There's some rust in that area and I'd guess there will be some under the mud. The rain rails are very clean though. The other biggest issue is the drivers side cab mount area. It's not wicked bad but it's not great either. It's still firmly attached but it's rusty. The rest of the rust story... There are about three bubbles on the top of the fenders where the hood hits on each fender. Each has about three quarter sized spots. There's a line of bubble on one of them that just barely shows on the drivers side. There's a spot about quarter sized on the lower front panel behind the front bumper. The front bumper has a spot where the chrome is missing but it hasn't rusted. Looks silver and doesn't show real bad. There's some surface rust at the bottom of one of the fenders lips. All the fender lips are solid but that one has some surface rust. The back of the bed on the right side has a dent that took off paint and some surface rust there. There's some minor surface rust on the frame but it's mostly paint (say 90%?) and clean. The previous owner putty'd over the original mirror openings and screwed some cheap-o ugly mirrors on the doors. I carved out the original holes and put some new mirrors on it but the holes from the other mirror mounting are still in the doors. I didn't glue or seal the grommets for the mirrors because I'd figured on painting the whole truck someday and they would need to be removed. So didn't seal them so theyll come off easy. The windshield wiper motor must be going. They work but after they runa few minutes they quit. After the motor cools off some they'll fire back up. What I've done when caught in the rain is to manually delay them. Only used them when absolutely required so I'd have them when I really needed them. My biggest prevention was to try not to be driving this truck when I expected rain. The Ugly... The tailgate has a louvered skin welded onto it and isn't my cup of tea. I'm including a very nice tailgate that I found. I had it sandblasted and primed. It has a couple little spots that need to be welded up on it but it's solid and straight. The areas needing welded are due to cracks, not rot. The sunroof is ugly but it is kinda nice when it's hot. No radio in this truck. Never had one... Some other things to know... The rears are geared very low. The rear is a Dana 60 with 4.56 to 1 ratio. Tranny is a New Process 4 speed. GVW is 6,800 (Very stout set of springs on this thing.) This cab was the "regular cab" In the mid sixties they started to offer what they called the "Deluxe three man comfort cab." this isn't one of them. The steering wheel is huge and the seat is currently over stuffed a good bit. If you are a very large person you won't fit in this thing. I'm average build and tall and the steering wheel is about two or three inches from my beer belly. The cab has the step in the doorway and this style had the older style bed with the round tail lights. Folks often figure these are incorrect beds for this truck because the body lines don't line up exactly but it is indeed the bed that Ford put on the 4x4 F250's with regular cabs. The deluxe three man comfort cabs came with beds like the later bump-side trucks of 67-72. Any questions...? Give me a yell. All in all it is a very solid restoration candidate or can be driven the way it is. I get tons of compliments on it and although it isn't perfect it's still a real eye catcher. New seat upholstery and padding comes with this. The seat is back in the truck now and the lower hide on it is loose but it's good to go for a ride. I'm not going to install the new upholstery. Oh... and the kit from LMC also has the hog rings and pliers for them. Also... although it'd be a long slow ride with the low gears... I'd trust this truck to go anywhere. Auction terms are like this... I require a $500.oo NON-REFUNDABLE deposit within three days of the auction end. The rest of the payment needs to paid within say... ten days. If not paid in full in ten days I will keep the 500 deposit and relist it and you get a non-paying bidder thingy. This is to weed out the folks that aren't serious buyers. Payment is U.S. dollars. If you want to pay by check that's fine but the check needs to clear before the truck leaves. NO EXCEPTIONS there... I had a guy try to rip me off that way once before and I won't be had. Best thing is good old cash. Any checks...personal or a bank check will have to clear and the bank tell me that the money is good before the truck leaves. If you plan on paying when you pick it up bring cash only. I won't let you take the truck until I'm certain I'm paid.
