Vehicle Detail
1968 Mustang GT 390 Fastback in good condition. I purchased it from my college housemate in Claremont, CA in the 1980's. I had it restored by Beverly Hills Mustang in the late 80's-early 90's, which was run by Major Brunk, the son of J. Orion Brunk, who was actually contracted by Carroll Shelby to convert stock Mustangs into Shelby Mustangs. I'm not sure if it was technically a "frame-up" restoration, but if not, it was close. His shop put in the originally specified 390 engine, and did the originally specified paint job, amongst many other things. It has some non stock extra's like a racing carbuerator, an auxilliary engine cooling fan with an interior switch, and an nice aftermarket stereo (I am a music producer). I have not run the stereo in years, but I used to bump it all the time. The stereo has 6x9 speakers installed in the back panel and 4-5" holes on the rear seat side panels for the KEF subwoofer sound, and speakers installed in the factory speaker door holes. It was driven for a few years, and then kept in my storage garage for years. I pulled it out of storage directly to Mustang Service Center http://www.fordmustangparts.com/ in North Hollywood, where Bo Chung put in a new gas tank and got it running nicely. I feel like it is running better than ever. I love this car - I think it is the most beautiful muscle car. It's not perfect - it has wear and tear from normal use, including paint imperfections, and a small hole in the drivers seat between your legs where a spring poked through. Also, I keep the new battery on trickle charge so it won't fail to start. I'm not sure why the battery needs this. I'm not sure if the mileage is accurate, but the odometer works - I've never messed with it. It has luxury features like power steering and air conditioning, but I'm not sure how well the air works, since I never use it, but I did have it refurbished when I restored the car in the early 90's. It has GT goodies like the hubcaps, logos and gas cap. It just affected the bumber and I repaired the damage at Beverly Hills Mustang. In 2010, I damaged the inside and some of the outside of the passenger door in an open door parking snafu in my carport. It was repaired by Bo at Mustang Service Center. On Jun-26-12 at 20:43:38 PDT, seller added the following information: I went over the car some today and noticed a few things. I didn't try to do a thorough check. The stereo wiring needs to be reconnected properly because it was moved out of the way when the new gas tank was put in. I haven't tried to run the stereo since I pulled it out of storage. They also put a new seal on the trunk, which is nice, but needs some reglueing. Many interior lights work, but one or more may have been out including one of the map lights. This car has parking lights and fog lights in addition to the headlights. One of the headlights and the fog lights seemed to be out. I won't have time before the auction ends to try to find the fuse box and troubleshoot. Everything has worked while I owned the car. I turned on the air conditioning which blew, but I didn't wait to see if it got real cold. The left turn signal indicator light and maybe another are slightly misaligned beneath the dash. I took a bunch more pictures which are on the skydrive. In the pictures, the engine area doesn't look minty, but when I had the car restored, you could have eaten off of it. I bet it would clean up nice. I have to go to storage to look for the new pull out stereo, and see if I have the original radio. I have also been asked by a potential buyer if I have repair paperwork, which I will search for and gather for the buyer. I have a cover, and some other extras for the buyer as well.On Jun-27-12 at 19:11:01 PDT, seller added the following information: I looked in my files and found some receipts that offer more information that might be helpful. I purchased the car on January 30, 1990. I had it restored in 1990. Major restoration. On 2-2-90, before restoration, mileage was 24,205. On 6-22-1991, mileage was 26,033. On 2-8-96, mileage was 42,474, so only 1,000 miles since then - it has been in storage most of the time. I don't know the history of the car from before I purchased it, except that my college housemate had it at our house in the mid 80's. I don't know how to tell if the mileage filpped over 100k before I owned it.On Jun-28-12 at 21:01:06 PDT, seller added the following information: I showed the car to 2 potential buyers today. They both wanted it, and knew these cars. We drove it around the block. It was running sweet - got a little chirp without even flooring it (we only got it up to 2nd gear in my neighborhood). One of them did tell me I should mention that the engine is not the actual original engine from 1968. It is the engine that the Mustang dataplate says the car came with. Major Brunk put this engine in at Beverly Hills Mustang in 1990 for me because it was the engine the car was supposed to have. The other guy was sticking a little magnet here and there on the body - I guess to check for bondo, but I didn't ask.
