Vehicle Detail
1951 MGTD CONVERTIBLE ROADSTER READY FOR RESTORATION This car was purchased in May of 1973 and has remained in our family all these years. I was restoring a 1953 MGTD at the time I purchased this car. I wanted one to drive while I restored the other one. This car was driven to San Francisco and back with no problems. It always started and ran great. In fact, this 1951 MG is supposed to have a TF Cam Shaft in the rebuilt engine. I know it was faster than my 1953. After I completed the restoration of the 1953, I gave this car to my mom to enjoy. She was too small to comfortably drive this car. Even with the pedal extensions she did not like driving it. I doubt this car was driven more than 3000 miles since I purchased it in 1973. It was last registered to drive in 1982. At that point I decided it was time to restore it. I took it all apart with the plan to do a cosmetic restoration. The engine and drive train ran great at that time. Unfortunately life and work got in my way. I purchased and restored other cars and I have never gotten back to work on this car. I am sad to let it go but I have other priorities at this time in my life. This car has always been stored indoors. It not a rusted out hulk. It is in great shape. I have all the parts for this car that came with it when I bought it except for the driver side step board. I do not know what happened to that part. It was certainly with the car when I dismantled it. After checking with Moss Motors, I think I should sell this car in parts. It appears the body parts/fenders etc., are more valuable than I knew. These cars are a wonderful place to start for a young man who has an interest in cars and auto restoration. They are not technical and are relatively straight forward. Spare parts are available through Moss Motors. My dad and I worked on my 1953 when I was in college and I remember very well his help and guidance. I will not sell that car. Too many good memories. Please ask questions if you need further information.
