It is still considered one of the most reliable BMWs ever made. With airbags and 4-wheel, anti-lock brakes, it was also one of the safest cars on the road during its production. Owned and pampered its entire life by Hollywood studio executives, the BMW 535i for auction here is the epitome of Coolness: it oozes character and displays a patina that is irreplaceable. After over 2 decades, the BMW’s original paint has a few touched-up chips, dings and scratches and the clear coat has lifted in a few areas (see detailed photos) but the paint is still presentable. In any climate, the powerful 6-cylinder engine starts every time, idles, revs and pulls effortlessly through the gears without hesitation, leaving no smoke in your rear-view mirror. Warmed up, the engine temperature remains absolutely stable with no hint of overheating, even after extended runs in summer, LA traffic. The automatic transmission shifts very smooth and precise. The disc brakes anchor the car securely, in a straight line and without any hint of fading. There's only a slight amount of play in the steering; consistant with the age and miles. Otherwise, handling and braking are simple and superb with no shakes, shimmys or pulls. All in all, this BMW is a joy to drive! Everything seems to be working on this 535i, from lights and switches to Ice Cold A/C. Most importantly, the car just passed CA smog test which proves the engine and all vital emissions equipment are performing well. Despite its age, the car could be driven anywhere, even across the Country, if that's where you live. Local sales tax and DMV transfer fees apply to residents in CA.
