Vehicle Detail
Hello, here is my 1981 Ferrari Mondial Euro model coupe. This is a very early production Mondial. Believed to be built in mid 80. One of the lowest vin numbers known today. The car is in original condition with only 14000 miles. This car was used very little over the last 30+ years. It still has the original TRX tires and the original Ferrari wheels are in good condition. Red over light cream (almost white) leather interior. The car needs to be restored. The car sat for most of it's life. It needs new paint. It's faded and the top is flaking off. It shines up ok with polish but fades out again after a few months. It has some rust areas. The door corner area by the handle, the lower area of the fender, an area on one rocker panel and a few areas around the tail lights. The rest of the car including the floors are fine. The photos make the paint look better than it is. The interior is original and still looks good. The last time I drove the car on a trip was about 5 years ago (summer of 07) and it peformed excellent without trouble. It ran cool with excellent oil pressure. Since then, I ran the car just a few times. I did not drive the car except around the block several times since 07. I started the car a few weeks ago for the first time in over a year. It started right up and still sounds fine. I did not drive the car this time because the clutch pedal is staying on the floor so do not expect to drive the car home. You may need to bleed the system. Except for this, the car should drive again. Right before I parked it, I had some service done including changing all fluids, filters, had a new clutch slave cylinder and the Digiplex control replaced plus some other items. About $2500 for this work to be done. The biggest issue with this car is that it sits too much but it always starts up and runs well. It has some issues with the power windows only working when they feel like it, the head light doors do the same thing. I do not want to sell this car, I have owned the car for 6 years and planned to keep it however, things change. I am building a new house and I would rather have some extra money to continue the house work than looking at the Ferrari sitting. Simple as that. The reserve is more than fair for this car. Lower than you might think. You are welcome to come inspect the car for yourself if you like. Private owner. A Ferrari for the price of a used Hyundai. Thank you. On Jun-05-12 at 19:50:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I wanted to ad a few things here. First, I do believe this is one of the oldest, (if not the oldest) Mondial known today. I have not found a lower number car and I have been looking over the last 6 years. The first Mondial prototype was built in the spring of 1979 and was shown around at different new car shows from mid 1979 through early 1980. Production begin on a limited basis in the spring of 1980. I believe this car was built during or before the summer of 80. There is no date tag on the door so I can not say for sure. This is also a solid top car. Every Mondial I have seen including a few early euros had a sunroof. Also, if you look at the rear seat photo, you will see that there is no rear seatback storage pouch between the seats. It never had one from new. Did anyone ever see a Mondial without that storage pouch? The vents on the side was always black and not red, (another very early Mondial sign) I only saw one other Mondial with the black vents and it had a production date of Oct. 80 on the door, however, it did have the rear seat pouch. This car also came with an Italian brand name 8 Track Stereo, that I removed, which was a dumb thing to do as I wanted a better sound system. I still have the radio but have not found it yet. If I find it at some point, I will send it to the new owner for free. I am going to try and free up the clutch pedal tomorrow (it stays to the floor as I stated above) If I can get the pedal up, I will be able to drive the car again. Thanks again for the interest. On Jun-08-12 at 08:26:50 PDT, seller added the following information: The reserve is close now. This car is priced more than fair and well worth it. It would be very hard to find another Mondial for this low a price. It's not going to take a ton of money to get this car on the road again. I got the clutch to come up and I drove the car up and down the driveway, however, the clutch pedal is still falling to the floor. I will look into this more tomorrow and update. Thank you. On Jun-09-12 at 18:52:49 PDT, seller added the following information: If anyone would like to see more photos of the car or would like a close up photo of any area of the car, or would like to come see the car in person before you bid, just let me know. Reserve is close. Thanks again.
