Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Ford Model A Shay Roadster Sold through Ford Dealerships as the last Model A Hard to Find Automatic Transmisson! This 1980 Shay replica of a 1929 Ford Model A Roadster is a real beauty. It was produced by Ford and the Shay Motor Company and sold in Ford dealerships as the last Model A. It has the look of a vintage automobile and the convenience of a modern car. Less than 5,000 made were made and less than 1,500 were produced with an automatic transmission. It has a Pinto 4 Cyl Engine Train and rack and pinion steering. This is a rare and yet affordable car. The car was restored right before I purchased it in 2010 and was checked over in late March of this year by a mechanic and is in great shape. It has a recently rebuilt transmission (4-5-12), new flywheel, new tires with less than 500 miles on them, a new radiator and radiator hose, new seatbelts, a new battery, new gauges, and new carpet. The car received a new base clear paint in 2010 and the paint looks great. The car comes with a car cover and a new jack. The car has been garage stored in the winter and is under a cover otherwise when not in use. The side curtains are included, but are not attached. I never had need of them so I never had the attachments placed on the car so that I could snap them on. The top has some wear but is in good condition. New windshield wiper motors have been installed, but I’ve never been able to get them to work. They should be an easy fix, but I haven’t bothered since I don’t drive the car in the rain. The car has no radio, but does have an antenna so it shouldn't be difficult to add a radio if you wish. The car does have a heater and it works great. When I purchased the car, I was told it had 12,000 – 15,000 miles on it, but the title lists around 50,000. The car has new gauges so the mileage reads under 2000. I want to be completely honest, so the truth is I’m unsure of the mileage, but think 12,000 to 15,000 is probably accurate. The car has been extensively restored and some of it is brand new, so most of it has very little milage on it. The car is in excellent condition and is fun to drive. This spring, I had my mechanic go over it and check out everything he could think to check so everything that needs fixing has been fixed. The car starts right up and runs great. It’s sold as-is, but runs and drives great. When I had the transmission rebuilt in April 2012 by Precision Transmission, I received a one-year guarantee, but I"m not sure if the guarantee will transfer to a new owner. I will give the buyer the copy of the guarantee and the receipt for the transmission work just in case the guarantee is transferable. The transmission should be good to go for many years since it was just rebuilt. I have about $17,000 invested in this car. The Buy It Now Price is considerable less and the reserve even less than that. I've decided it's time to give up my toy so I've priced it to sell. If you're looking for a Ford Model A Shay Roadster this is your opportunity to purchase a nice one. It’s extremely difficult to find a Shay with an automatic transmission. I searched over two years before I found this one. Please feel free to email with any questions. I’ll be glad to show you the car in person in Bloomington, Indiana.I am selling my Shay so that I can get down to one car, so I'm not interested in trading.
