No Reserve Auction - High bidder wins, no matter what! 1966 Ford Thunderbird Convertible, Factory A/C, 315 hp 390 ci original engine, C6 automatic transmission, Power Windows, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Swing-away Steering Column, New Top, original Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. This 1966 Thunderbird was purchased at auction about 10 years ago in Oregon. The buyer brought the car to California and soon discovered that just about everything needed work, so he embarked on a total frame-on restoration. The original 315 hp 390 was completely rebuilt, the C6 automatic transmission was rebuilt and the convertible top mechanism was completely checked out and the necessary parts were rebuilt or replaced. The car was painted the correct Arcadian Blue. The dark blue interior is in immaculate condition. It hardly shows any wear at all - very unusual for a car that is 46 years old. The carpet is also in perfect shape and it not damaged and worn. Same for the floor mats....excellent shape. I also have the original fender skirts for this car and they are also in excellent condition. I left them off because I didn't want to cover up the wire wheels. If you know your Thunderbirds, then you know how boring the metallic colors can be on a car like this. The baby blue paint and wire wheels with whitewalls give this car a very distinctive look. The convertible top was replaced with a new one and the mechanism works perfectly. This is a very important factor on these cars. They are pretty complicated mechanisms and this one is in perfect working condition. This top goes up and down with the touch of a single switch and the process can be stopped or reversed at any time. This car is unusual in that it is a factory A/C car. Most convertibles of the time did not have air conditioning. More importantly, the air conditioning has been upgraded with a modern R134 freon compressor. This AC blows COLD air. The engine bay is clean and new decals were added as well as chrome valve covers. The power antennae works and the original AM radio also works. The clock doesn't work....they never do! All gauges are fully functional. The driver's seat is power and works perfectly and the swing-away steering column is a really handy feature for entering and exiting the car. The car is showing just over 112,000 miles and is believed to be the correct mileage. Considering that nearly everything on the car has been refurbished, the mileage is hardly a factor anymore. This car is totally rust-free...period. It runs as smooth and quiet as the day that it rolled off of the assembly line. It starts every time with just 2 pumps of the gas pedal, and the automatic choke even works. It is a true joy to drive and has been a fun car to enjoy for the last couple of years. I am selling this fine Thunderbird at NO RESERVE. The highest bidder will win this auction, even if there is only one bidder. I am confident that this car will bring much more than my low opening bid. I am not a dealer. I buy these vintage cars for the sheer enjoyment of it and then sell them after a year or two. This car is not perfect and as with any vintage car, you will find a chip here and there - the car has been driven. I have tried to represent this car as accurately as possible.
