Vehicle Detail
1973 BMW Bavaria Sedan. 1973 BMW Bavaria sedan. The color is Arctic Mist Blue. It runs smooth as silk and drives great. I purchased this rare car at an open bankruptcy auction and find that I must send it on its way soon if I want to finish my own project. My wife says something about too many cars. This car has many options. Air-Conditioning, Sunroof, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Stereo fade control, 6-cylinder engine, 4-spd manual transmission and dual carburetors. The car has 84K miles. The previous owner bid against me to get this car back, but I was too enamored with it. Afterwards he told me that he had been a car collector and took great measures to restore this car. He wanted it back. He said the engine had been rebuilt with less than a thousand miles on it, but he lost everything in the bankruptcy seizure. So, there is no proof that the engine was rebuilt. Though, I can tell you the car runs very smooth, is powerful, and you can see from the photos that there are no leaks from that very clean engine. The good: Great car with lots of power and a smooth sporty ride. A beautiful paint job that was very professionally done. The previous owner said the very expensive paint job is apx 5-years old and the car has been inside storage since then with occasional drives. This car has no rust anywhere. I took the time to research these cars a bit, and this is a rare car that is a rust free jewel which has been in the Idaho desert for at least 15 years. Note that the first photo has a shadow cast by the sun behind me by the rear door. The paint is in great condition. The not so good: For those automotive purists out there, the paint is not original. It is “Arctic Mist” that is a Mercedes blue color. The previous owner said he simply liked it better than the original blue color. Also, the drivers floor mat is worn out, but I still have it for a pattern. The drivers seat also is worn some, but there is a genuine sheepskin seat cover over it now. The spare tire well was the only spot of surface rust where the tire rubbed and looks like it was converted and painted over. See the photo. The radio seems to work fine, then has sporadic scratchy fits. Overall this car is in great shape and drives so very well. I have put almost 50 miles on it, and found that it is a pleasure to drive. But, it has to go so I can finish my BGT project. I provided many photos to give you the best possible information. If you have any questions, feel free to email and I will post answers quickly. I am happy to arrange shipping or show the car to a prospective buyer. You will be pleased with it. Cheers and Happy bidding. On May-20-12 at 20:08:44 PDT, seller added the following information: All things work fine in the car; levers, latches, wipers, fan, lights, etc. The AC works fine with fan and compressor engagement and the air is cold, but not ice ice cold. No drips or leaks from the car. There is no serious rust anywhere, but the bottom of the car has some minor surface rust as shown in photos. Also, the car comes with a chamis type of car cover that the previous owner kept on the car. On May-21-12 at 19:40:13 PDT, seller added the following information: To respond to a few more requests and questions; I have run a refrigerator magnet over the entire body area. The magnet sticks to all areas equally. The body panels all fit evenly and as you look at the photos, you can see that the sides are smooth, fit well and do not have dents. The inside of the fender wells look good. I like to think all that indicates that there have not been body repairs. Yes the crank type sun roof operates smoothly, closes tight and did not leak in the carwash. Sorry no maintenance records, when I said the Previous Owner (PO) lost everything, I meant also that all of his records were taken away. I especially wanted the records for the new engine he said had 1K miles on it, but they were not available. So, photos must suffice. The PO said the car was in great shape when he got it, so he decided to restore it. Also, I don't know if the AC is converted. I have driven this car 35 miles on the freeway from the auction and the rest about town. It drove great and personally I would not hesitate to drive it long distances. Paint is in great shape. The car has not been driven much since the paint job so the front of the car is smooth and does not have road chips or nicks. Even so, upon close review of the body, I found two chips. One is at the trailing edge of hood and it is apx 1/8th of an inch diameter. The other chip is on the passenger roof area near the sunroof and it is apx 1/4 inch in area. That one is hard to notice. Yes the title is clear. I do have lots of photos of the car, but ebay only lets me put on 24 photos which you see in the ad. If you would like more photos of specific areas, I will be happy to take them and send them individually to you. Please don't wait to request them until the last moment on this coming holiday weekend. Can I hold this car indoors a month or more? I will work with you, but six weeks is a bit of a stretch. If there are more questions, I would be happy to talk with you. Of course I will post the answers here as information to everyone. So far I am learning a good deal about what to look for on this type of car. On May-25-12 at 07:27:30 PDT, seller added the following information: More Answers: Headliner, yes it is in great shape and I have photos. I just could not add it to ebay due to the limit. Indpendent inspection by a BMW mechanic? Absolutely, you can send anyone over to inspect. I will make myself available for your mechanic/inspector. I wish I had thought of that last week when I could have scheduled an inspection at the european car shop. Speed? Yes the car drives well at speed. I was impressed at how fast it got to 85mph on the freeway with such a smooth running motor. There seemed to be plenty of power to go faster. Oil pressure, water temp were just fine on that 35 mile drive from the Auction.
