Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this beautiful 1979 Pontiac Trans Am. If you're a serious Trans Am collector, this car's for you. It's factory-equipped with the high-performance W72 motor, four-speed transmission, Fisher T-tops, deluxe hobnail cloth camel interior, as well as the WS6 handling package, which included 15" x 8" snowflake wheels, thicker rear sway bar, quick-ratio steering box, and four-wheel disc brakes. This is an extremely original and unmolested car. It's very straight. You'll notice how nicely all the body panels line up and how perfectly the car sits. This Trans Am spent all its life in a garage and it shows, as there is no rust. The car is incredibly solid and rust-free throughout. I cannot stress this strongly enough! The interior is very nice. There are no rips or tears on the seats, they're still firm and supportive. The dashboard is perfect - not a crack to be found. If you're familiar with the camel hobnail cloth interiors, you'll know that the color has a tendency to bleed making it appear dirty. This one is no exception. All the courtesy lamps work, all the gauges work, the lights, the heater, the rear defroster, the wipers, the vents, and the windows all line up correctly. T-top seals and all weatherstripping is superb, including the shaker base. On the road, I would not hesitate one moment to drive this car across country. The steering is tight, the alignment is perfect, the tires are good, brakes are strong, there's no shaking or vibration anywhere. Clutch is nice and meaty, all the synchros are good and the transmission shits easily. No leaks of any fluids at all. All gauges work, it holds good oil pressure, even idling warm, it runs cool, idles smooth, doesn't smoke or make any weird noises and usually starts at the twist of the key. The radio powers up and works, but needs to be reconnected to speakers. The paint is an older repaint that was done professionally, however there are scratches and chips that are noticeable up close. It is extremely presentable, but not what I would consider to be show quality, and I don't want to represent it as such. You'll notice that there are a pair of speaker grilles on the rear deck and that the car has yellow spark plug wires. As best as I can tell, that's the only aftermarket equipment on this car! It's an extremely unmolested car which is highly unusual for the breed. If you're looking for a T-top 4-speed Trans Am that hasn't been modified or thoroughly trashed, this one's for you. If you would like to see video of the car running and driving, I posted one here: http://youtu.be/Ir2w6cGlSkg I have described this vehicle to the best of my abilities.
