1980 Turbo Trans Am Numbers Matching 93,000 Miles Daytona Pace Car Edition. I bought this car in Missouri and had it shipped here to Pittsburgh to restore because the northern winters are extremely rough on these cars. Most are rusted out, so I choose to get my cars from the South or Arizona. I have 7 Trans Ams that I have restored and I was going to do this one for my daughters 16th birthday, but she wants a Red 77 TA with a shaker. What can I say. So I just bought a 77 project that I am tearing apart now, and will not get to this one this year. The 1980 White Turbo TA was just pulled out of storage, fired up, and I took these pics. This is an excellent candidate for a cosmetic restoration. The car is not your typical rusted out TA, there is a crease in the drivers side door, very fixable, a little rust by the T-tops and various small dents and dings, but the typical places these cars rust out are in the door jams, lower 1/4 panels rockers, around the rear window and trunk. This car does not have the typical rust issues. Tthere is some rust on the drivers side floor, due to the t-tops leaking (they all leaked). You can replace or repair that easily. The engine does not smoke, miss or anything, the transmission shifts as it should. The brakes feel a little soft but there is no pulsing or shakes when they are applied. It does not pull to the left or rigth when they are applied. in fact it runs better than one of my other turbo cars. I drove this car about 10 miles after getting it out of hibernation, and it really is a nice ride. I was planning on putting this back to showroom condition. The worst part of this car is the interior. The sun has cracked the dash, and faded the plastics. The seats are OK, but if you are going to do the outside or this car, you might as well get an interior kit for $300 and redo the seats. There are brand new tires on it. THis car has not beeen driven much in the last few years, so If you plan on driving it out of state. I will go over it before you take it. I suggest shipping or trailer just to be safe.
