Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a classic turbo diesel CD. It belongs to a friend of mine who owns two of these and has decided to sell this one. This is a relist for the second time. The winning bidder both times, contacted me after they had won the auction and explained to me that they didn't have the money to finalize the transaction. PLEASE if you are not going to pay for the item don't bid!!! I tried to take a lot of pictures of the vehicle so that the buyer can have a good perspective of the car. I have had the opportunity to drive this car for awhile. I have had Mercedes diesels for many years and in my opinion this is the best motor they ever made. It is commonly referred to as "the million mile motor" if you keep the valves adjusted and the oil changed they just run forever. The motor on this car fires right up with no hesitation. When you are driving the car the turbo spools up as it is suppose to, in fact this is one of the peppier diesels that I have driven. The transmission shifts with no hesitation and there is no vibrations at high RPM's or high speeds. It is obvious to me that this motor has been maintained, the only mechanical issue that I found is that when you turn the key off, it takes a few seconds for the engine to stop. These are not electronic ignition cars, they work on a vacuum solenoid that shuts the fuel supply off to the engine, this is how Mercedes designed the car. When there is the slight hesitation in shut off, it means that there is a vacuum leak some place in the vacuum lines. This is not a problem in my opinion, it is just something that I wanted to address. The only other mechanical issue is the air conditioner. It was blowing cold a few weeks ago, then it was warm, this week it was cold again and yesterday it was warm. I asked a mechanic friend of mine about it and he told me that if the switch is energizing and the compressor is engaging then I probably needs to vacuum the system and put new freon in, it has R134 in it now. So I am listing the air conditioner as temperamental. As I hope you can see from the pictures the car is solid and straight and for a 28 year old vehicle it looks good but it is not perfect, so please understand that there are probably small nicks and dings and imperfections in the paint. These vehicles consistently get around 25 mpg around town and I have averaged over 30 on the highway in some of mine. The Mercedes CD's with the 5 cylinder diesels are classic not only in their style but in their performance, they quit making this car is 1985 and they have become collector's items. There is no rust at the jack ports that I can see or around the doors, this is usually where these rust. There are a few weak spots on the rear floor pan but it looks as if they have been repaired. As I hope you can see from the pictures, there are some cracks and tears in the front seats but they have genuine sheepskin covers on them. The sunroof opens but I had to help it close. The front windows work fine, the rear windows seem to have some issues, I would venture to say it is a switch, but I have not had a chance to check them. I pulled the spare tire out so that you could see that there is no rust there, that is another place they tend to rust. All the lights work, wipers, speedometer, and tachometer work, and a big thing on these, the odometer works so this is accurate mileage. The original radio has been replaced with an AM/FM CD player that works. The tires are fair to good, I would estimate another 5,000 to 10,000 miles. Overall this is a nice CD and with a strong motor. As I said before, I tried to take enough pictures and tried to describe in enough detail so that the winning bidder will not have any major surprises. If you are the winner bidder you could fly in to Atlanta (I live in one of the suburbs) and I will make arrangements to meet you somewhere, if you want the car shipped I will be glad to drop the car at a local shipper, but the winning bidder must make all the arrangements. I am selling the car for a friend of mine and I can not and he does not offer any warranty on this vehicle written or implied, and as such is being sold "as is". He has placed a very realistic reserve price so that the car will sell. I have done my best to describe the vehicle in an honest and accurate way. If you do have any questions, please feel free to email me and I will respond as quickly as I can.
