Vehicle Detail

You are viewing an exceptionally well maintained and rebuilt Guards Red 1977 Porsche 911S, with only 89,500 documented miles. This is a phenomenal drivers car, and honestly runs better than any 2.7 911 I've ever driven. Every mechanical need or recommended update has been attended to through the years with this car, and it comes with an inch thick stack of service records to substantiate this. I will try to touch on the majors, but will also include a couple pictures of some of the invoices. Simply put, less than 10K miles ago, this 911S was the recipient of a three stage full mechanical restore & rebuild totalling approximately $20,000.00. The previous owner's focus was undoubtedly on the mechanical and performance related aspects of the car (as it should be with a true driver). Cosmetically it's presentable, but not a detailed show winner. Granted, it is parked next to my near perfect 930, and I'm picky...The car appears to have been repainted some years ago to a (glass out) high degree, but the paint does have some years on it, so there are the expected stone chips, etc (also other than one large chip and several small, it looks good and not faded under the bra). The interior, again, is presentable and serviceable, but not immaculate. Seats were nicely redone, but not in the "correct" material (for you finicky Porschefiles). The dash has the requisite cracks, but nothing too bad. The carpet shows some age. The back seats are very nice, as is the targa top. Simply put, if you're looking for a concourse show piece, this may not be the car for you. If you'd like a 911 that runs and drives as fantastically as a 911 should, looks nice, but not so nice you're afraid to enjoy it as intended, then take a close look at this car. Following are a few high and low points I feel are worth pointing out... * Full engine rebuild at 80K miles - including head studs, gaskets, pistons, cylinders, rings, etc. * "Carrera" style pressure fed chain tensioners * Clutch, tires, brakes, etc all replaced in last 10K * All shift linkage and bushings redone, and the trans shifts nice and smoothly in all gears - as well as any 915 transaxle you'll experience. *Battery new *Decent aftermarket CD player *Real OEM Porsche turbo whale tail (technically incorrect for this car, but a valuable piece nonetheless) *Runs, drives & stops great, straight and true. A few minor but noteworthy issues and quirks: * Tach is erratic - works sometimes, other times not (more not lately) - and easy repair and common with early VDOs. * Doesn't always idle perfectly when ice cold for first 20-30 seconds. After this time it idles great, steady and consistent. * No visible rust anywhere on the car, but there is a touch of the very common and non structural corrosion down in the battery area of the front trunk. Over all, this is not a concourse show car, but a very, very nice driver quality 911S. I like this example (& would keep it if I could!) because it is nice and reliable enough to enjoy regularly and with pride, but not so nice that you're afraid to take it out and use as intended. Early 911s are rapidly appreciating, and will soon be out of reach for the casual enthusiast. Rarely do you find a realistically priced one with these low, documented, original miles. I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person prior to buying or bidding. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. I have owned over 50 Porsches, and am picky about my cars, but potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. I can help with very reasonable shipping arrangements, but transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email or call me at 574-361-5315 with any questions, more details, or if you'd like to make an offer. Good luck!
