Vehicle Detail
Let's start with the bad news. This car has a bent frame. I have taken it to two frame shops, and both decided it could not be straightened, because the front cross-member is warped beyond repair. The front end is pushed to the left side by about 2". The car drives reasonably well, pulling to the right slightly. When I bought the car, the seller was straight up about the frame. The steering had been adjusted to make the best of the situation, but it is not what I would consider a drive-able car other than to move it around. I have driven it around town a total of about 25 miles, and while I feel safe in it, I would not take it on the highway. I put a new master cylinder on it, and got the engine running, although it is still rough. The exhaust looks and smells like raw gas, and it may burn oil, but very little. Even when hot, the exhaust is mostly clear. The 4 speed is fine in all gears, and the clutch feels good. A tune-up kit would be in order, and the carburetor may need rebuilding. It holds good oil pressure at all temps. The body is mostly straight, and there is very little rust on the car except on the lower edges of the doors. The drain holes were obviously plugged at some point and water accumulated in the lower part of the doors. The front floor pans were repaired some time ago with sheet metal. The trunk is solid. The bumpers are very good, but much of the stainless trim has hail dents. The seats need to be redone. The headliner is excellent, done in black, and the door panels can be saved as well. I have not gotten into the electrical system, other than to make sure the brake lights work. They do. There is no tachometer sending unit, and the fuel and temp gauges do not work. The clock and radio do not work either, and I don't even know if they are connected. The speedometer does work, but I have no idea about the total mileage. The oil pressure gauge also works. Unless you live in the Denver area, the car will have to be put on a trailer for transport.
