Vehicle Detail
I was hoping this day would never come... The day I would be forced to sell what I have put soooo much blood, sweat and tears into (not to mention the thousands of dollars!!!). I am selling my 1977 Jeep CJ7. I have rebuilt this Jeep from the ground up and have done so many upgrades that I don't even know where to start to list them! You can see around 150 pics of this Jeep at this photobucket link: http://s1173.photobucket.com/albums/r591/Mechani-Co/ It has an AMC 258 in-line six cylinder that runs very strong (126K miles on odometer, but rebuilt less than 8,000 miles ago). The powertrain is a Jeep T-150 3-speed manual transmission mated to a Dana 20 transfer case. It has Dana 30 front / AMC 20 rear differentials with 4.11:1 gear ratio and, of course, solid (one-piece) rear axles. If you know anything about Jeeps, you know how important the solid axle upgrade is! The rear differential is rebuilt and has an 'Auburn Gear' limited slip carrier in it. I rebuilt the engine less than 8K miles ago and did the HEI upgrade bringing it from 15k volts to a 50K volt distribution system. Because of the 'High Energy Input' (much fatter) spark, it made it run much stronger, get better gas mileage, completely got rid of the electronic control module (which is notorious for failing) and made the engine emmissions burn much cleaner. I removed the stock front axle locking hubs and put on a much beefier set of "selectro's". All driveline(s) u-joints have been replaced. I upgraded to power steering, power brakes, 3-core radiator (was getting ready to do a chevy 350 swap), beefier steering gear box mounting bracket (the other design flaw in jeeps) along with the support arm going from the steering gear box to the passenger side inner frame rail. I also completely rewired the entire jeep and all electrical works as it should. It has new(ish) front AND rear brakes (including wheel cylinders, drums, hardware, etc), new tires (33x12.50x15 Goodyear Wrangler GSA's) with 5 alcoa style wheels (including spare) and 'gorilla lock' locking lug nuts on all of the studs of all of the tires. It has a 2 1/2 inch suspension lift and a 2 inch body lift. The motor mounts and transmission mounts are new. It also has SmittyBilt side nerf bars and front bumper. The front bumber can be removed, exposing the tow bar mounting brackets (which folding towbar is included). I replaced the entire original '77 tub with a 1984 tub (everything that's purple) and it is still "smogable" as a 1977. Although they look identical, the newer ('84 vs. '77) tubs have two major advantages... First, the way the roll bars mount to the tub is a much MUCH stronger design and the whole heater/defrost system blows much hotter and stronger. I even installed a custom made heat director to blow the heat toward the people inside; not at the floor board. I stripped the entire Jeep completely down and gutted it, sanded it, sealed, primered, painted and clear coated it with Napa's Martin Senour paint (yes, purple! ). The exact color is "Metallic Super Grape II". I wanted a very nice looking and durable paint job- but not so nice that I would be afraid to take it off-road... And that's exactly what I got! I also covered the entire inside of the tub with gray herculiner. The windshield, windshield seal, wiper arms, cowl gasket (between windshield and tub) and all other gaskets/seals were replaced at that time, even down to a new hard plastic molded glove box (along with a whole lot of other things that I just can't think of right now). I painted the entire underside of the tub and the whole frame with POR15. I took out the 15 gallon fuel tank and put a 20 gallon tank in, replacing all the hoses and clamps. I removed the stock steering wheel column assembly and replaced it with a tilt-wheel column and put on a 'Grant GT' steering wheel. I installed an electric fuel pump that can be switched on at any time with a dash mounted toggle switch to override the mechanical fuel pump. This comes in VERY handy when the Jeep sits for a while, allowing the fuel in the lines to 'drain back to the tank' (loosing it's prime) or climbing a very steep hill- It won't burn up the starter or starve your carburator of fuel!!! I also installed a remote starter solonoid on the firewall that has a push in nipple on the bottom allowing me to crank the engine over (start it) standing next to the engine. I always use new nuts, bolts and any other hardware as needed as I do repairs / upgrades. It has a new exhaust system from the head pipe back (including a new catalytic converter). I put on every bit of smog equipment it is supposed to have including a new catalytic converter, air injection (smog) pump, air injection tubes, diverter valve, fuel filler nozzle with restrictor (the little flapper thing inside the fuel filler hole), charcaol canister and hooked all the vacuum hoses up. With the clean burning engine, the new catalytic converter and all the right equipment installed it will have no problems passing smog. If you are an out of state buyer and your state does not have emission laws, I can remove all the smog stuff and it will just run that much stronger and better. It comes with a bestop soft top (with 2-piece soft doors) and a bikini top... All of which are in fine condition. It does NOT come with a HARD top! The speaker boxes are custom designed to fit between the roll bar and tub, tucked away nicely so they're concealed and out of the way. Each one also has a built in cup holder (great for people in the rear seat!) and they are weather resistant. I'll have to upload pics with the speakers installed. I had removed them previously and forgot to put them back in before I took the pics. I've done every single bit of work myself to this Jeep and cut no corners. From lock-tighting nuts to soldering wire connections and heat shrinking them. I am not a "shade tree mechanic" either. I went to school for auto/diesel mechanics 21 years ago and have been employed as a mechanic since. I was recently laid off and am in the process of starting my own mechanical company called "Mechani-Co." Hence, why I must sell my Jeep. It is completely "turn-key" and ready to be driven... ANYWHERE! The only things that do not work on this Jeep are the horn and the windshield washer sprayer. The sprayer fluid reservior is there and intact, it just all needs to be hooked up. I also have an "Oooga" horn that I just never installed. Oh, and the speedometer is a little wacky... It reads about ten m.p.h. slow and after driving for a while the speedometer will progressively drop down until it reads 0 m.ph. then it will pop back up after a few minutes and work fine again. It does also have a slight exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold. Nothing major at all... just thought I'd mention it. It's not a "rock crawler" but it will take you just about anywhere you want to go. Jeeps are expensive... But worth EVERY penny of it in my opinion. I don't know what is better... tromping aroung on the trails and fire roads in the mountains or driving highway 1 with the top off. There's nothing like it. I will be completely honest and let all 'known issues' be, well... known. Not that it's much, just being honest and fair since you can not physically see it until you've already bought it (unless you live semi-local). As I mentioned, the horn and windshield washer fluid sprayer does not work (easy fixes though). The clutch is strarting to chatter a little bit at times. It does not slip at all... Just an occassional chatter. I planned on replacing the clutch and pressure plate next winter, but now I'm selling it. It has fairly new brake lines, but since I put the lift on, they really could stand to be a little longer. The front drive line has a little bit of slop at the slip splines. That's honestly all I know of. It really is in very, very good shape. Their aren't many CJ's out there that are in this good of shape! If the buyer lives in California and needs it smogged, I will take it in and have it smogged after the auction ends. Until then, I will keep the Colorado Collectors plates on it that are registered until 05/14. It is located in Elk Grove, California (near Sacramento). You can see all my photos of the Jeep on photobucket at this link: http://s1173.photobucket.com/albums/r591/Mechani-Co/ I will not ship the Jeep to you unless you make all shipping arrangements and have it picked up from Elk Grove, California. Otherwise... Local pick-up only. Please visit my website for my new business (www.mechani-co.com). You can also contact me through there. By the way... I'm using my wifes Ebay account... I'm not a 'mom'. Thanks.
