Vehicle Detail
Unarguably, the CR500, two-stroke has become a legend. And, although opinions may differ, 1986 and 1987 were allegedly the best Honda ever built. Well, I agree. I purchased this bike in 1986 from my friend who bought it, rode it once, and got scared to death from the sheer power. I've owned it ever since. This bike has been every bit as reliable as any man's dog. I am not, nor have been, a motocross racer/rider, so the bike has been used strictly for desert riding. And we don't do a lot of it each year. This bike went 24 years without any type of mechanical work at all, other than routine maintenance. Two years ago, I had to have the piston replaced. I just picked up the bike from the Honda dealer. They will not service the 500's from this "era" however, I was able to get them to completely service the cooling system. The bike is completely stock. For 26 years, she starts right up; never fail. She rides as fast today as the day Honda rolled her out the door. You'll get all sorts of "thumbs up" from riders when they see a true classic bike like the 1986 CR500. She'll climb any hill and carry any sized rider as fast as he or she wants to go. I finally broke down and bought a new CRF450 so the 500 is simply a spare now. As far as the condition, I've listed it as excellent. There is a small rip towards the back of the original, stock seat. (Easily covered with a small piece of blue duct tape). She could probably use some new fork covers and the pipe has a few small dings in it. Other than that, she's a show piece of a true classic.
