I'm selling my 2000 Subaru Legacy. It is running strong but needs major repair to continue running. This vehicle, as is, will NOT pass New York state inspection (i don't know about other states). I bought the car in 2009 from a dealer in Maryland, so the car is southern and has a rust free body. Quoted $2,300 to rebuild transmission and $500 brake work currently needed. What the car needs: - brakes and rotors - possibly new calipers, they may just need to be lubed up - to rebuild the transmission (starting to slip, though it still runs fine) What the car has: -rust and dent free body -powerful engine starts strong -AWD -power locks, windows, mirrors -clean, smoke -free (and smell-free) interior Maintenance done on the vehicle: - 106K miles - battery replaced (still starts strong, though there is corrosion around the terminals) - 114.5K miles - exhaust replaced from catalytic converter back (including muffler) - 121.5K miles - tires replaced, balanced and aligned - 125K miles - rear brakes and rotors replaced - 125K miles - front half-shafts removed and replaced Minor/Cosmetic Imperfections: - handle for the hatch sticks, but lock works and door completely closes - interior panel (covering wiring and brakes) is loose - key does not open rear hatch (door can be opened with power locks) - interior has minor scratches and stains - exterior paint has minor scratches and chips - drivers side door seal is coming off/worn - hole in drivers side floor mat I am still driving the vehicle from time to time (very little) so mileage may change slightly. The car's e-brake light is now illuminated, I'm not sure why. In addition, the brake pedal has lost some pressure. I've been getting some questions about whether you can drive this car long distance. The answer is you shouldn't drive this car until it has some brake work, the transmission (though starting to slip) still runs strong, though. The car still stops, but can't make short stops safely. Again, it needs major brake work to continue running.
