Vehicle Detail

1973 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ Model with factory Sunroof This Pontiac was from the first year of the next generation in the Grand Prix era from 1973-1977. I personally believe it is the best looking Widetrack Pontiac offered from that era, and had the most horsepower of this generation. I've owned this car since 2004, and the mileage has barely turned over. This is the actual mileage on the car. I recently acquired the Pontiac Historical Society documents on this Grand Prix to prove it is a true Big Block 455 car. The prior owner purchased this car in Arizona, and told me that it spent its entire life in the Grand Canyon State before I became the fortunate 3rd owner. According to the PHS docs it was purchased new on 02/13/1973 from Kelley Pontiac in Colombia, Missouri. The options include power steering, power disc brakes, power door locks, power windows, 6-way power drivers bucket seat, power trunk, rear defrost, power sunroof, dual sport mirrors, cruise control, tilt wheel, AM/FM 8-track stereo, front and rear bumper guards, body side moldings, pinstripes, convenience lamps, rally II wheels, automatic level control, and air conditioning. Suffice it to say, THIS CAR IS FULLY LOADED! It even has the unique accessory container attached to the kick panel, and the original door edge guards. It is very hard to find a rust free 1973 in this condition after nearly 40 years in existence. You won't find many classic cars out there with an undercarriage like this GP. I did not find any patch repair work done anywhere on the floors, trunk, or frame. I would say it looks like the undercarriage of a 5-10 year old car. The chrome and trim all the way around this car is in very nice drivers quality condition. I could see no signs of this car ever being involved in an accident with the exception of a dent that was on the right front fender. That repair was done professionally at the time of the new basecoat clearcoat paint job. This was the very first time this car was ever repainted. I made the purchase with the original paint, but it was faded from the sun and heat of Arizona. It was refinished with the beautiful correct Porcelain Blue color code. I really haven't driven this car more than 500-1000 miles in the past 7 years. It has only been driven locally around town in Kenosha, and to Chicago a several times. It always ran very well, and starts right up every time. It has always been garage kept during my entire ownership. Whenever you drive this car down the road you receive nothing but thumbs up, and people won't leave you alone when you are pumping gas. It can be used as a daily driver or a nice classic to attend local car shows. There are several things that will need attention by the next owner. The interior could use some attention, although it is presentable in its current condition as viewed in the pictures. The turn signal lever will need replacement, and the air conditioning will need a recharge. All of the components are present for the A/C including the belt. The blower works on all speeds, but I have never tried adding freon. It is still on the period correct R-12 system. The heat still works great, and I would not be afraid to jump in this baby and drive it across country. The tires are all raised white lettered 225/70R15 Viper GT Radials with nice tread. This Grand Prix does have the original posi-traction rear-end. There is a full size spare tire on a rally wheel with the original restored jack in the trunk. Should there ever be a mishap on the road, this GP will still maintain its appearance after a quick tire change. The motor for the Sunroof does work, but it will need some attention to open and close smoothly. The headliner is still in good shape, although I had to create a custom piece of black vinyl to fit under the sunroof section to make it look nice. The original carpet is in relatively good shape, but I would suggest having the seats reupholstered. I placed some awesome very expensive sheepskin covers on the bucket seats. They feel very comfortable, so there is no rush on having the seats done. The battery is a little over a year old with new terminal ends. The wiper blades were just replaced. A lot of time, money, and effort was put into this rare SJ model to make it look as close to the way it did when it rolled out of the factory back in 1973. I tried to replace all of the factory decals wherever needed, but the drivers door blue vin tag decal is original. That shows how complete this car still appears. This GP just floats down the road, and you have the awesome power of that 455/4 barrel engine with the sweet sounding dual exhaust. I just had some nice chrome exhaust tips welded on both ends of the dual exhaust. I never cared about numbers matching on my own classic cars as long as the car ran good. For all of you Pontiac fanatics that do care about numbers, I had my Pontiac expert buddy check out the numbers on this GP. He said everything matches from the engine block all the way up to the carburetor. I saw the numbers on the block myself and they do match the vin number. I know that having numbers match does increase the value tremendously on any classic car. I feel very comfortable stating that almost everything on this car matches, and the PHS documents come with this car to verify my statement. I believe the previous owner when he stated everything was original except for the ignition. That was changed to an electronic ignition for easy starting every time. The engine and trunk compartment were nicely detailed as you can see from the pictures. A new trunk mat, and new floor mats were installed. I'm not going to say that this car is a Barrett-Jackson museum piece, but I have had many comments from people saying how stunning this car looks. As I write a description I try to list everything I can think of. If there is anything else that you may like to know, please ask as many questions as you like. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. These cars have consistently shown to increase in value. Here is a prime opportunity to purchase a classic luxury muscle car at a nominal investment. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide has the 1973 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ Model listed at $16,300 in high, $9,700 in average, and $6,175 in low condition. They also state to add 20% for the 455/4-250HP engine, 10% for air conditioning, 5% for rally wheels, and 5% for the power sunroof option. I would say that this GP is in much better than average condition, but that's just my personal opinion. I'm taking an educated risk that I will be compensated somewhat for all of my hard work. This is a 5-day auction running with no reserve and this big block GP will sell to the highest bidder on Wednesday evening at 8pm eastern, 7pm central, and 5pm pacific time. This Grand Prix is for the guy or gal that had one of these cars in high school, and wants to relive that memory, or just wants a cool car to drive. It is very hard to come across a nice solid first year of this generation Grand Prix in an SJ Model with the numbers matching Big Block 455, especially in this color combination with all of these highly desirable options. It's not too late to treat yourself to a well deserved Christmas present. This really is a spectacular looking car if I do say so myself. You are certain to spruce up your neighborhood with this car sitting in the driveway. The title is open, clean, and clear in my name from 2005 when it was registered and licensed. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!
