THIS 1981 CORVETTE COULD BE A ONE OF A KIND . According to the documents that was given to me when I purchased it. It was delivered to O'Reilly Chevrolet in Tucson Az when it was new. It came in a Primer Gray and sent to Formula One Automotive in Tucson for paint.I have documentation that the owner of shop remembers the car specifically because of the custom blended "Nutmeg Bronze" color and because it was the only Corvette he had ever painted fresh from the dealer with zero miles At this time the St. Louis factory was preparing to shut down and the Bowling Green plant was ready to start up. Paint quality had been more than a occasional problem. To prevent the dealer from refinishing or repainting O'Reilly had it delivered in Primer Gray. O'Reilly somehow was able to get a Pop-Up Glass window assembly kit, the identical one that is installed on the 82 Collection Edition, had it installed while the car was still new. Glenn Brown in New Jersey, who has done extensive research for the NCRS specifically for 81-82 judging manuals, he is convinced the Glass assembly is a Cars & Concepts kit. C&C made the kits for GM to install on "82 CE's only. I may have the only 81 having a 82 Pop-Up Glass window installed before it was sold new and delivered in Primer Gray from factory. Trying to keep it under 20. It is in my shop with a cover on it always! It looks and drives like a dream. It does have after market radio,wheels and air cleaner.
