Vehicle Detail

NO RESERVE! Where do we start? Simply, this is a really bright, clean, pretty Mk1 in lovely condition, which has done very low mileage. I have a comprehensive history file with the car, which appears to confirm, that the 41500 miles are indeed genuine. Its original “Passport to Service”, is stamped up to 21,000 from the original dealer. Thereafter, a large number of old MOTs up to year 2000 when the car came off road, corroborate the mileage to 41,000. The “Passport to Service”, lists the original purchaser and supplying dealer, back in 1965, and is accompanied by the original “Drivers Handbook” and “Drivers Handbook Supplement – 1964 Modifications” publications. These are all still in great, crisp condition and nice to have. In 2000, the car was taken off road, where some of the bodywork had begun to deteriorate, and the car began to look aesthetically tired. Bodywork: When off road, the previous owner had fitted a new front panel, rear valence, o/s wing, o/s inner and outer sill, rear subframe and then was sidetracked by life. I have had a new n/s inner and outer sill fitted, n/s A panel, n/s wing and excellent n/s door fitted. The rear quarters, roof, gutters, bootlid and remainder of the car were all good. The bootfloor was solid, and a small plate welded into the battery box. As such, the car was in a state where it was now solid, but needed painting. I sent the car off to a local bodyshop, where all the glass, headlights, interior were all stripped, and the rolling shell painted inside and out in cellulose primer. The exterior, interior and bootfloor then sprayed, in original BMC Old English White cellulose. The car was then flatted, mopped and polished and refitted, using new rubbers all round. As such then car looks well. Underneath: This car is ROCK SOLID underneath. The sills and inner arches have all been stone chipped and body coloured and the remainder of the floors undersealed thoroughly. Both subframes are in excellent condition and have also been painted. The rear subframe was replaced by the previous owner, and done very few miles. The crucial area where the rear subframe mounts the floor is rock solid. The floor pans are all solid and fatigue free. All the brake lines are brand new, hand brake quadrants all free, new track rod ends fitted and brand new bump stops fitted front and rear. The exhaust is the original, not brand new sparkling, but perfectly functional. Brightwork: The bumpers are fitted with over-riders and corner bars. They have the usual small dings here and there, but did not merit replacing to my mind. The grille is the original Morris type. The Moustache, is pitted upon close inspection and would need rechroming, although again functional. The chrome around the rear windows are fine. Running Gear: The engine ticks over very sweetly indeed. It has a brand new battery fitted and it starts first time and sounds lovely. I have put in new plugs, h.t. leads, points, condenser, distributor cap and recon distributor, changed the oil and all the filters. The carb has been stripped down and overhauled, although running a tad rich. It has had a new thermostat and water pump. The rad was taken out, inspected, then repainted and refitted. The brakes are good, given the 6 new wheel cylinders, new brake hoses and brake lines all round, as well as a relatively recent master cylinder. The complete engine bay was steam cleaned and all repainted, both body (inner wings and bulkhead – all rot free) and mechanicals painted. The car has had a new clutch slave cylinder fitted and a recent clutch. It looks very clean and tidy under the bonnet, fresh paint, fresh stickers, fresh bonnet and bulkhead insulation. In essence, the car is as clean and tidy and rot free under the bonnet as the rest of the car is. It sits on original 10” wheels and a set of period crossplys and original wheel trims. The hydrolastic suspension was pumped up over 10 months ago, as it had sunk fractionally at the front. All the hydrolastic displacer units are good, as is the pipework, the car has not sunk a millimetre since it was pumped up. Hydrolastic is always a worry given the scarcity of spare parts, but rest assured the hydrolastic system on this car is spot on. I have fitted a brand new SU fuel pump, the tank confirmed crud free and lines are clean, as confirmed by an in line filter. The gearbox is excellent (although as with all Mk1’s no synchro on first … an acquired taste). The car remains cool, when crawling in traffic and shows excellent oil pressure. All the gauges work as they should, light up as they should. In effect, it starts, stops and drives and is ready to hop in and use … I have done over 200 miles in it to iron out any problems and it puts a smile on your face as you bounce down the road as people smile at you and put their thumbs up. Interior: The interior is clean and bright, obviously only having been used for 42000 miles. The carpet set was replaced and looks very neat. It has the original Morris seats, which are in excellent condition, the squabs tight and vinyl rip and tear free. The seats and door cards were all removed when the floor etc was resprayed and sent to a local trimmer. The trimmer stitched in a new seat back which was sun damaged at the top, and he colour restored all the seats and door cards. They now look very grand. It has a set of period Kangol lap belts, nice headlining, pull string door openers, new stainless sliding windows channels and all other Mk1 accoutrements in good condition. It is a nice, very period place to sit. All the door rubbers, sliding window channels, rear window rubbers and front and rear screen rubbers are all new. The heater is brilliant and the car gets lovely and warm on a cold morning. All the wipers and lights work exactly as they should, including the dipping headlight button on the floor and little light on the end of the indicator stalk. The stlk is a little pitted, but works perfectly. The floors in the car are spotless. Lift the carpets and you will find bright and shiny, body coloured paintwork. The complete interior was removed and the car extensively red oxide treated thence repainted in old English. All floor pans are rot free, solid and dry. Overall, this car is ready to use. It has had a large amount of both time and money spent on it, and is ready for use, be it as a weekend and dry use car, or even an everyday, practical classic. A frugal, iconic classic, that will only appreciate in value. To my mind, the Mk1 is the Mini in its purest and prettiest form. Overseas buyers are very welcome and I will do all I can to assist whilst exportation is arranged. Overseas buyers must pay by bank transfer before the car will be released. A deposit (usually 15%) will be required whilst prompt export arrangements are made. Car is currently registered in Maine. Please email with any questions, also open to traades.
