Vehicle Detail
1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 convertible This is a fine example of what a 1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 looked like when they rolled off the assembly line 40 years ago. If you always wanted one here is your opportunity to treat yourself to an early Christmas present. I purchased this car last winter from a gentleman in his 80's. He had stored it many years where it just sat and accumulated dust. It had the original paint, so I took the liberty of giving this beauty its first repaint. I saw no signs of this car ever being involved in an accident. The original top was replaced last week with a new glass rear window, and well liner. I have the original Sage green convertible top boot that will be included with this sale. This Olds has an original steel framed genuine GM hood with the original springs. Not some flimsy aftermarket ram-air hood with the lightweight springs. The chrome twistdowns and the receivers are new. All the chrome and trim on this car are in good drivers quality condition or better. The rear cut-out back bumper has the factory bumper guards with brand new chrome trumpet exhaust tips. The dual exhaust is music to your ears as you stand behind the car with the Rocket engine running. This convertible has the infamous whaletail spoiler on the rear deck lid. The dual snorkel hood stripes and the W-30 side stripes were painted on the car, not some cheesy decals. This Olds was painted in the beautiful code 48 Sequoia Green. I went with a buddy to Scottsdale Arizona this past January for the Barrett-Jackson auction. He sold his 1972 442 W-30 convertible in the exact same color combination for $61,000. Now this Olds was just made to look like that car, but noone will know that it isn't a real 442 W-30 except the next owner and me, and I'm not telling anyone. Anyone who has driven one of these cars knows how well they run and drive. I have always felt that there is no finer handling muscle car than an Oldsmobile A-body. The oil, oil filter, transmission fluid, transmission filter, transmission pan gasket, distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires, pcv valve, and air cleaner were all changed prior to this listing. There is a newer battery with new terminal ends. The pre-heater tube that comes off the air cleaner that mounts to the passenger side exhaust manifold is still in place after all these years. Whenever I sell a car I try to replace all the little missing items and rubber parts that typically disappeared on these cars over the years. I always do may best to make sure that all the head lights, bright lights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, license plate light, cornering lights, and the interior lights work as they should. The heat and defrost works great on all speeds. The wipers work on both speeds, and new wiper blades were just installed. The factory AM radio does work, and a new speaker was installed inside the dash. The horn and lighter do not work, and the clock is stuck on 4:42 the best time of the day. They may need a fuse replaced, so that will need to be looked at by the new owner. The engine was carefully detailed with all the proper decals for a W-30. For those of you that are interested in numbers matching cars, the previous owner told me that the engine is original to the car. I checked the block and saw 03 in succession, and those are two of the numbers on the title, so I believe him. I didn't want to sand away anymore on the tab. I'll leave that for the next owner if it matters to them. I never cared about matching numbers as long as the car ran good. I tried to replace all of the original factory decals around this car to make it look the way it would have on a showroom floor back in the day. I'm not trying to describe this car like a Barrett-Jackson museum piece by any stretch of thee imagination, but it will certainly turn heads wherever it goes. The interior shows in relatively nice condition as shown in the pictures with only minor imperfection. It does still have the original visor mirror on the passenger side. The dashboard does not have any cracks, and the chrome around the edge of the dashboard was just replaced. The hideaway ashtray door still opens and closes. I had the front bucket seats professionally replaced with the factory correct material, and they feel very comfortable. The carpet was replaced at some point, but not by me. I did add the new chrome door sills. This baby has the N-34 custom sport steering wheel, with the D-55 sports console. The Super Stock II wheels are painted to match the color of the body with period correct FR60-15 inch raised white lettered B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A's with nice tread. The 15 inch wheels and the FR60 T/A's really make this car sit up nice. The original trunk floor had some minor repair, and was nicely detailed with a new trunk mat. The trunk carries a full size Super Stock II spare with the original jack. If there is ever an unfortunate mishap you are back on the road looking complete with a quick tire change. The rubber gasket around the trunk lip was also replaced. I believe the reason the floors, trunk, and frame held up this well after 40 years of existence was because this car was undercoated. There is no finer muscle car on the planet than the 70-72 442 convertible in my eyes. I eat, sleep, and live for 442's, so I put my heart and soul into this car. It took an exhorbitant amount of time, money, and effort to make the car that is described for sale in this auction. I repaired or replaced any parts that I felt needed replacement with nicer used or brand new parts. I try to list everything I can think of when I write a description. If you notice something that I may have missed, kindly ask as many questions as you like. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. These cars have incredible investment potential that can be enjoyed while they increase in value. This is a great chance to pick up an incredible bargain for a nominal price. I'm running this auction at no reserve with a $2,000 opening bid. I am willing to take the chance that I will be compensated accordingly for all of my hard work. This Rare, Hard to Find, Classic Oldsmobile Convertible will sell to the highest bidder on Sunday evening at 5pm eastern, 7pm central, and 8pm eastern time. Please get all of your bids in prior to the start of the Sunday Night football game between the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. This way you have something to talk about with your buddies during the official reviews. Thank you for taking the time to view this auction. Good Luck, Happy Holidays, and Happy Bidding!
