Vehicle Detail
Presenting: 1973 Trans Am 455 4 Speed with 13,711 miles. This special Trans Am was basically used for only a couple of years then parked for most of its life in a dry garage and never driven. The ownership history is very unique and is documented with extensive paperwork. The car originally was purchased on April 13th 1973 by H & H Lease Company in Indiana and leased for only 12 months to a Dr. David C Brandes for $220 per month. The car was inspected by the State of Indiana with 9,287 then turned in to the dealer with 9,291 miles. The car was turned into Matthews Buick Opel with a signed odometer statement by the leasing company. The car was then sold by Matthews Buick and financed to the second registered owner. I have the original bill of sale and finance contract for that purchase. I also have the original warranty booklet, owner’s manuals, and original delivery paperwork for the original owner. The car also has its original keys with Matthews Buick key chain. The title is still from 1974 when the second owner took possession of the vehicle. The second owner drove the car very little and then just parked it his garage and let it sit for around 37 years. I purchased the car needing to get it running properly and checked out from top to bottom and front to back. I have spent a few thousand dollars doing so and have made the car road ready for any distance trip. When I received the car the radiator and heater core needed to be repaired or replaced because of build up from not being used. A new heater core was installed and the original radiator was re-cored and a new thermostat was installed with fresh coolant after a motor flush. The engine runs a nice cool temp between 180 and 195 degrees. The carb was also clogged and the secondary’s were not functioning so I had the carb rebuilt using a kit from Cliff’s Rochesters. The carb work great now and is the correct numbers matching 1973 manual trans carb for the car. The A/C was not working either when I got the car but, I did a great job locating new old stock (NOS) GM parts to repair the system. I installed a new GM POA valve and new GM Expansion valve along with a few cans of R-12 Freon I had left from years ago. The A/C works great and holds pressure. The tires basically split on their side walls when I unloaded it off the trailer so new tires were installed. I do have the original tires still if the new owner wants them. The car still had all four of its GM spiral shocks, which I still have in boxes, but I replaced them with four new ones for a great smooth ride. The exhaust system was undersized for the car so I replaced the small stock exhaust manifolds with Ram Air III manifolds and then mated it to a Flowmaster 2 ½” dual exhaust system with transverse mounted muffler. I still have the original stock exhaust manifolds and they will go with the car as well. Engine: The engine runs super smooth and sounds great through the exhaust system I installed. It starts up every time and the choke operates correctly until the motor warms up. The motor is bone stock and runs perfect. It is of course the original numbers matching engine and transmission that the car was built with. I have verified all the numbers. The rear axle is the original axle and is a 3.08 posi. I drained the fluids and replaced with new along with a tube of GM posi additive. The posi works great and does not make any noise. Body and Paint: The car has its original body and it is in fantastic condition. All of the metal is original and solid. The trunk floor is like new along with the doors, rear quarters, hood, trunk , tail panel, rear and front valance and fenders. The passenger front fender has a tiny surface rust spot on the bottom which can easily be repaired. The front nose does not have any cracks in it and is still retain the original GM paint. In fact the nose, hood, roof, trunk, spoilers, rear tail panel, rear valance and some of the side still wear the original GM paint. At some time the sides of the car with blended with some paint to touch up the appearance of the car. All of the wheel flares, and welting are original GM red and have never been painted. They are like new! The bottom of the car is still finished in its stock GM red oxide primer and has never had any rust proofing sprayed over it. Interior: The entire interior is original with exception to the headliner. I replaced it because of sagging issues, but it is the correct material. Decals: The car still has the original “bumper sticker” style decals on the hood scoop, sides and rear of car. The hood bird is original but has some checking in it. Options: The car has from what I can see the following options: 1) Delux interior 2) Tilt steering wheel 3) A/C 4) Hood Bird Decal 5) Roof drip edge molding 6) Tinted glass 7) Exterior trim option(chrome belt molding for hood and doors) 8) AM/FM radio 9) Honeycomb wheels If you have the time or opportunity to come and see the car I suggest you do so to truly appreciate the originality. It is an unrestored original car so it does have its flaws. This is not a restored car that has been pieced together. If you are in the market for a great survivor style complete car with paperwork to back up its history then your search has ended. I am selling the car as is because cars of this age are.
