Vehicle Detail
This is a very rare Turbo Chevrolet Monte Carlo. It has the same basic 3.8 litre engine as the Buick Grand National and "T" Type Buicks. They were only made for 2 years, 1980 and 1981. There were only 16,886 produced out of a total production of 336,692 Monte Carlos during the same time frame. That equates out to a very low production and rare model, and this car has only 59,449 original miles on it. A true rarity. I have the original sales order from when a lady purchased it from the dealer in 1980, the owners manual, as well as copies of her original title and the only other owners title when he titled it in 2008. She owned it for 28 years! I friend of mine works at a Harley Davidson Dealer, and told me about this car. It was traded in on a new Harley. They did not want it so, I was able to pick it up about 2 weeks ago. I have no interest in these types of cars, but after researching the rarity them, I decided to give it a try on Ebay. The title has been been transferred into my name so titling will not be a problem. I do have an open Missouri title in my name. Now for the description. This car is original / original, right down to the floor mats. There is zero rust. Even the frame is super clean. The bottoms of the doors are perfect. According the original sales order, the lady paid extra for factory undercoated. Weather stripping is in great shape. I was told it was always garaged and it shows. The paint is original and good for the year. There have been some minor touch-ups performed, and there are some blemishes, but no noticeable signs of any collision repair. The rubber bumpers are the worst part, paint wise, and the center trim piece on the front bumper has shrunken on the right side, but both bumpers are in good shape otherwise. The "T" is missing from the TURBO script on the left side of the hood scoop. Over all, the car shows very well, but it would need a repaint to be perfect. Driving wise: It drives very well. No rattles, wind noise, vibrations, etc. Drives and stops straight. All lights, gauges, radio, wipers, washers, etc. work. Tires have a lot of tread left. The engine is a little cold natured, but runs out great once warmed up. No smoke or major oil leakage that I can tell. Transmission shifts great. Supposedly the turbo was recently rebuilt, although I have no paper work on it. The A/C and heat both work. High speed on the fan is out, but I have an extra heater control with a good switch that comes with the car. Options include, power steering, brakes, windows, locks, and antenna, ( extra power antenna in trunk ). Tilt wheel. Cruise control. Custom two tone paint. Aux lights. Value appearance group. Rear defroster. Body side moldings and stainless steel lower trim. ( has extra set in trunk also ) Tinted glass. A/C. Door edge guards. AM/FM stereo. ( has a very nice after market one in it now ) 3.8 Litre V-6 Turbo ( a $550.00 option ) The interior is very nice except for the back of the drivers seat. It has been ripped by something getting caught on it I suppose, as the bottom is still fine. The rest on the interior shows very well. No rips, tears, sagging headliner, stains, etc. Dash is perfect. Shocking, to me, is that the original delivered cost in 1980 was a whopping $9,572.69. Seems like a lot of money to me for back then?
