Vehicle Detail
Very nice 1981 Honda CBX 1000. Sold naked in 1979 and 80, Honda for 1981 upgraded the six cylinder 1000 to include a full sport touring fairing, color coordinated saddlebags, and Pro-Link monoshock rear suspension with an alloy swingarm. Big, fast, smooth, and 6 cylinders make this one of the most collectible Japanese motorcycles there is. This bike starts and runs good, with like new tires and fresh battery. All cables and hoses are in good shape, brakes work fine. I drove her up to 75 mph and she is stable and accelerates fine through the gears. Previous owner added a K&N air filter, Corbin seat, micro fog lights and deer warning whistlers. The seat has 2 stress cracks showing (see photo). The engine is a bit cold blooded and needs to be ridden more often. Needs choke until it warms up good. Original paint with minor wear on pin stripes and minor surface oxidation on aluminum and chrome areas, etc. The tank interior is clean of rust, and the underside shows no warning signs of corrosion or water retention (check out the left side at the rear of other CBX tanks for problem signs!). No known major dings or dents. One very small and hard to see ding in the right side engine roll bar bottom, looks as if it rolled onto something (a rock?) but no adjacent wear or scratches and roll bar not bent. Underside of footpegs and signals show no contact with road, and fairing and mirrors all check out OK, so l believe it to be accident free. While neither a museum piece or project bike, it should make a good daily rider, or do touch up paint on stripes and replace exhaust for a more pristine look and show it off at rallys. Mufflers have been drilled at ends for slightly louder sound, and headers are showing fair but normal corrosion. Alloy parts need a bit of polish, and motor could stand a re-paint in black, but I would recommend keeping the original factory paint on the tank, fairing, and side covers as is. These bikes are continuing to go up in value, and this looks like a good investment needing minimal TLC that you can also ride and enjoy while it appreciates. Bid with confidence. Pick it up, fly in and ride it home, or I can put it on a pallet and deliver it to any local freight company. Clear transferable Ohio title. Georgia tax registration paid and up to date.
