Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on our family's beautiful baby blue 1977 International Harvester Scout II. It was used by the original dealer (Brekus Buick/International in Rapid City, SD) as a personal vehicle for part of one year then purchased from that dealer by my mother in 1978. She is still the owner. The Scout has 72,466 miles and has always been kept in a garage when not in use. The original V8 (345 I think) engine runs strong although it doesn't like to go much over 65 anymore. The 4 wheel drive system works well, hubs lock and unlock smoothly. The original automatic transmission is very smooth. The interior is very clean (has always been smoke free) and the cloth fabric on the bench seats is in very good condition, still my vote as most comfortable seats in the auto world. The top is made so it can be removed but we have never done it so it is still sealed. The exterior is in very good condition (see notes below), the side panels were replaced about 12-15 years ago and look great. The vehicle has always had regular maintenance. In July 2010 I replaced the battery and box ignition module. On the downside there is some rust starting to show in the seams at the roof-line over the windshield and under the doors. The passenger side mirror is missing. The gauges all work except for the fuel gauge. The dash-board light is burnt out on the left two gauges (temperature and oil pressure). Clock doesn't work. The cruise control stopped holding this year. The ac unit needs a recharge, motor still blows well. There is a tear in the vinyl on the drivers side seat, a small hole in the vinyl behind the passenger seat and a button starting to pull out on the rear seat (see pics). There is a problem with the carburetor which can cause a pause when stepping on the gas from a stop, necessitating a "double pump" on the accelerator pedal. This gets worse when not driven for long periods and loosens up when driven regularly. I recently used the Scout as my personal vehicle for several weeks each of the past two summers and loved every minute of it. It gets a lot of attention from others! I can't care for it where I live, time for someone who loves Scouts to enjoy it. Deposit should be paid within 72 hours of auction end and full payment/arrangements/delivery should take place within a week. If more time is needed it will require more complex scheduling. I will accept Pay Pal, cash or cashiers check (must clear first). For more information contact me directly at celloguy@verizon.net or 617-308-6911. Many of you have asked about the rust. I have tried to show the worst of the rust issues in the fullest light. There isn't anything about them that doesn't seem manageable and there is no rust on the major exterior areas. There are some undercarriage and engine pics and one of the small dent on the right door. I don't know what the body mounts are so will try to find out and take a picture tomorrow. Also in answer to questions, I believe the Scout would be ok to drive home. I had it on the highway often (once for about 120 miles) this summer and felt fine in it.
