Vehicle Detail
1959 MGA 1600 Coupe set up for vintage road racing, not street legal and would be difficult to retrofit back to a street legal car.. Has a current Vintage Sports Car Club of America (VSCCA) log book and was raced at the 29th Lime Rock Park, CT Vintage Festival this past 2011 Labor Day weekend. I built the car in 1991, updated it in 2001 and it currently needs to be updated again. Age has caught up with me and I have decided to retire after 20 years of a most enjoyable hobby. It currently needs a driver side rear axle seal, brake cylinder and brake line. The Simpson seat belts need to be replaced. It has stock MGA disk wheels and radiator, these should be upgraded for competition along with an oil cooler. The passenger side front fender hit the tire wall on the downhill at Lime Rock Park and has been repaired, a painted replacement front fender is included. It has a 8 gallon Speedway steel can housing with a polyethylene fuel cell and an on board 5 pound Halon Fire Bottle with nozzles in the driver compartment and engine bay. The current engine is a stock 3 main MGB 1800 that smokes a bit, the stock ratio MGA transmission has a MGB front housing so that the MGB clutch and flywheel can be used. The stock SU H4 carburetors have had minor flow work done. the distributor is a Mallory dual point and a spin off oil filter has been fitted. It has an after market tachometer, water temperature and oil temperature gauges. The oil pan has a baffle fitted and the oil pump has been modified as per MG racing specs. Spares include: Stock 1600 engine with new .030 over pistons, new.020 under main bearings and new .040 under rod bearings. It is a complete engine but now only the crank and the pistons are installed. A second 1600 engine, less the head, and needing a complete rebuild is included. A set of 4 standard 1622 pistons is included as I was going to use them in the second engine with 1622 rods. The following spares will need rebuilding but are good cores: complete disk wheel rear axle, MGA 1600 transmission and drive shaft, MGB 3 main transmission, 3 MGA rims and 2 more MGA rims that have cracked and were welded up to be used as shop wheels along with a 1600 front disk hub and rotor are included. I was going to swap over to the MGB front hubs and the complete set up is included - only the shocks have to be rebuilt. I was also going to set up the MGB dual master cylinder brake system and again all the parts, including a new master, are included. As I clean out my garage additional cores for starters, generators, carburetors, etc.will be added.
