Vehicle Detail
Vintage Imperial V-8, designed by Elwood Engel to reflect the very popular 1961 Lincoln Continental (which he also designed). The Imp is originally from Las Vegas (perfect Rat Pack car), bought from an estate there by a young Marine, driven to Riverside California. He painted the car the Burgandy color (not a great paint job but servicable). He shipped out and then I bought the car and moved it to Palm Springs. Needless to say, no rust. I've had the car about 8 years, 2 years ago moved it to a garage in Hollywood. I've done a lot to the car; living in the desert for 40 years, it needed a new interior which I put in (see pix), new headliner, lots of rubber (new shockmounts, lots of engine rubber and seals, new and improved brake lines, master cylinder and everything brakewise, new trunk carpet, new gas tank, new carb, etc). I've concentrated on that kind of work and driving it. Driven from Palm Springs to LA, to Pasadena, from Hollywood to Ojai and all over LA. I changed the front brakes from drum to Disc last December and can drive safely in LA traffic, which is saying a lot. Drive it to work from Hollywood to downtown daily. Drives fast and safely on the freeway; steady as a rock. The stainless and chrome is excellent, although the bottom of the rear bumper needs straightening. This car is amazing on the freeway, the suspension is fantastic. Drives like a rocket, super fun going fast (now that I have the disc brakes, anyway, a little scary with the drums). I didn't get it painted because I wanted to do all the mechanics first. It needs: a new or rebuilt radio, a speedometer cable, heater. I replaced the rear window motors but they need to be connected. The passenger window works, but the switch needs to be looked at. The weatherstripping over the windows needs to be replaced. The driver's window works and I'm the driver, so I haven't concentrated on those problems, I wasn't planning to sell it. But I just inherited a 66 coupe and I'm going to concentrate on that now. This is a cool and driveable Mopar luxury car (only a little over 14,000 of these were made, not too many around now), very steady and comfortable, push button transmission works great. Needs some TLC work, after all it's 46 years old. However, the price reflects that (although the interior alone cost more than double the buy it now price, not to mention the front disc brakes, etc).
