Vehicle Detail

BMW 325iX All-Wheel-Drive 1989 E30 chassis Classic Sport Sedan The definition of grace & agility in winter. Class, distinction, luxury of BMW’s best sports sedan. Up for auction is my pride & joy , the best purchase I ever made – few cars have ever been made as well to last as long, nor are as safe and fun to drive in any weather! Agile as a leopard in the ice and snow with superior full-time all-wheel-drive system as attested by many ice rally wins over the world’s arctic landscapes! I’m the second owner, car originally bought in Colorado Springs Winslow BMW. The car is in exceptionally outstanding condition, gently driven over its life by a mature driver, lovingly maintained and garaged, always taking great care to keep it out of the sun. This one stands out from every other 325iX – a rare find in this condition. The pictures speak for themselves. The car is registered to me with a clean title, current California registration and insurance. Service: The car received care well beyond BMW’S recommended intervals at BMW and the best independent mechanics in Colorado. Only OEM BMW parts were used. I have all the receipts and records from my ownership (these materials are NOT included). Here’s a summary of the systems: Engine/Drivetrain/ AWD: Here’s where I spent extra careful attention because I was into this car for the long haul. Engine runs smoothly and strongly. Regular oil changes with premium Mobil/Castrol/RedLine synthetic and conventional oils (about 3K miles engine/25K miles transmission and differentials), bi-annual coolant flushes & valve adjustments. No leaks to collect grime under this car. Recent oil change (engine, transmission, brake fluid, transfer case, coolant). I treated this engineering masterpiece with due respect! New timing belt, tensioner, water pump (regular 50k mile replacements). Replaced fuel pump, oxygen sensor, fuel injectors (Bosch), fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator, distributor cap & rotor, coolant hoses, thermostat, new spark plugs, air, fuel, & oil filters, throttle cable, air intake boot. Smooth-shifting, 4-speed, lock-up converter ZF automatic transmission that’s as clean as a jewel inside. Fresh screen filters and oil changes every 25,000 miles - no varnish here. Replaced kick-down cable, shifter seal, pan gasket. New remanufactured transfer case (new chain, sprockets, seals, gaskets). One of the BEST FEATURES of this car, and along with the new front driveshaft you’re ensured to have the maximum power-coupling strength to the front axle which is what this car is all about. Most iXs are grossly neglected here, and need this expensive work done at once. But THIS CAR IS READY TO ROCK IN THE SNOW for many more years! Serviced driveaxles (cleaned & re-lubed CV joints, new inner rear CV joints, all new GKN/Lobro OEM boots). Replaced front driveshaft & both front & rear driveshaft guibos (flex joints). California Smog-Legal! NEW EO-legal catalytic converter. Car easily passed the strictest emissions standards in the country. The OEM muffler probably has a couple years life left. Replaced battery with heavy-duty high-current Diehard; never failed in below-zero mornings. Interior: Clean, pristine, original, smoke-free, & about 99% of showroom condition. Received regular cleaning & conditioning. No seat or soft trim cracking, tears, or rips; I always had sheepskins on the seats. No seat foam distortion - they feel, work, are as comfortable, supple, and smell as new in 1989. No stains on the carpet – always had quality floor mats, included. It’s my personal car – no carpools, passengers, or animals. Dashboard switches and controls look like new, and have been serviced over the years. They work. No check engine light or other instrument warning issues. Here’s a special treat: replaced dead original instrument SI board battery! Every BMW e30 car by now needs this changed or the instruments will malfunction and the tachometer will jump erratically. It’s a tough job, and this one’s already done. Silky-smooth instrument responses. Genuine Wheelskins leather steering-wheel wrap. Feels great to hold. New transmission shifter handle. New BMW driver’s door lock, keyed to ignition. Superlock works. Power locks, windows, antenna (new antenna grommet), cruise control all work great. Original factory BMW weather-band hi-power AM/FM/Cassette deck sound system that works well. Sounds great and looks like new. A/C system converted to R143a with Bavarian Autosport kit (new receiver/dryer, switches, valves, hose, flushed, evacuated, filled). It blows cold, and is cheaply serviced (vs the original nearly-illegal R12). Replaced sunroof seals and drainage tray arms – no overhead leaks. Dashboard is supple & looks like new but has developed a small crack (see photo) over the instrument console. It’s in an inconspicuous location and can’t easily be seen sitting the car. Car has been meticulously detailed for this auction Exterior: Paint is 90% original Diamond Black metallic. It still gleams brighter than most new cars (see photos). The clear coat is intact and not peeling as other cars that spent their lives in the full sun. Waxed regularly, garage-kept, & obsessively kept form parking lot dings. Car is 22 years old and does have a few dings and some minor road gravel chips which have been filled with OEM BMW touch-up paint (lower panels, fenders, roof). They aren’t noticeable unless up very close. There is a little crease on the right rear door’s lower panel and driver’s front rocker panel (barely noticeable), probably kicked up from road debris. Car has never been wrecked. I was going to keep this car, so I had the front end restored with premium chip-resistant Dupont automotive enamels on the front dam & rear gravel pan, fender flares, side skirts, and bumper trim. On every other iX I’ve seen, these parts are badly pitted from road gravel. This one gleams and looks wonderfully fresh & new. Even the rubber trim feels soft. New windshield; MAJOR plus - no cracks or rock-chip-blinding haze from driving into the sun. The rest of the auto glass is pristine. Power mirrors work as they should. New fog lamps & front turn signal lenses. Headlights are chip-free & pristine because they've always had polyurethane protectors on them (see photo). The headlight valences have been restored with Wurth enamel. Original factory BMW trunk-lid spoiler – freshly repainted in Dupont auto enamel There’s no rust on this car as you see on every other e30 BMW. I routinely rinsed the undercarriage during the winter months. Suspension: Rides tightly, straight and true. Recent front-end alignment. No steering play. Replaced gas struts (Bilstein Heavy-Duty, front & rear) & OEM front upper strut mounts Rear strut mounts are nearly indestructible Ground-Control billet-aluminum/polyurethane aftermarkets (see photo), SUPERIOR to OEM rubber mounts which fail very regularly. Replaced rear subframe, trailing arm, & control arm bushings. ATE Power-Disc slotted rotors and Pagid pads (front); OEM rotors, pads, shoes, & drum hardware (rear). Brakes have about 75% life left. Replaced front brake lines with OEM-BMW, rears are Earl’s teflon-stainless steel lines. Nice, tight brake response, car stops tightly and quickly. Original 15-inch basketweave BBS wheels (also on the spare). Good shape, run true with no vibrations. Have some minor curb scraping from the previous owner, but are clean and look good (see photo). Firestone WinterForce stud-less snow tires installed so you can drive out of California directly into snow country. About 60-70% tread left, no cupping. Extras: Colgan Custom full nose mask/bra - kept the rock chips to a minimum and will keep the recent front detail work looking good EVO-4 car cover in great shape repair manual OEM air & oil filters, and a small assortment of light bulbs for your trip home This rare classic is one of the nicest, best-maintained e30 BMWs you’ll ever see. The extent of all the real-time upkeep & repairs to every system, the original condition inside & out, the fresh detail work add a lot of value. The transfer case repair alone is worth $3,500. The Bilstein heavy-duty gas strut replacements would cost $1,500. New it sold for $33,000. The 2011 Collector Car Guide lists this model in this condition ranging from $6,300 to $9,800. My reserve is below this range. This car was highway-driven, it feels rock-solid, stable, and responsive at all speeds. Don’t let the 228,000 mileage discourage you - it drives tight and smooth. This is a testament to how these cars will last forever if you properly maintain them. The cost of ownership was actually cheap in the long run. This car is ready to drive cross-country. Like all 325iX owners, I’ve grown very attached to it, and I’m only selling it because of a permanent relocation out of snow-country. If you need to drive on icy, snowy, dark and treacherous roads, there is no better car. This car is sold the same way I bought it: as-is. But bid with confidence, I'm sure it will give you many years of driving pleasure as only a BMW could. Depending on which state you'll be taking the car to, additional fees will include: certificate of title & transfer fees, appropriate state sales & use tax. The California smog certificate is well within California's 90-day valid period for re-registration to a new owner, meaning it won't have to be re-done. Likely out-of-state buyers may have the same benefit.Full-size gallery at this Photobucket URL: http://s835.photobucket.com/albums/zz278/WinterForestMike/BMW%20325iX%20AWD/?action=view¤t=844292bd.pbw On Oct-21-11 at 00:30:17 PDT, seller added the following information:Update 10-21-2010: Hello bidders, thanks for looking at my car. I'm including some very desirable goodies in the auction, free to the winning bidder, in addition to the others listed in the description that follows: Control Arms, both left & right. These are the OEM BMW Lemforder, NEW IN THE BOX. If you haven't priced these lately, they are $300 EACH at discounters, lots more at the dealer- total $600 value. Never had to install these as the original arms on the car are solid, but here they are. Passenger side fog lamp, OEM BMW ZKW made in Austria, NEW IN THE BOX, value $200. The new foglights as installed on the car are good aftermarkets, not OEMs. After an inspection of the brakes, they are about 50%, giving you at least 25k-30k miles of normal driving, more if you're gently on them as I am. Remember, you can drive this car home, unlike other iXs that need a flat-bed ambulance ride to the mechanics before they are roadworthy! Happy Bidding! On Oct-22-11 at 10:43:13 PDT, seller added the following information: BMW 325iX All-Wheel-Drive 1989 E30 chassis Classic Sport SedanThe definition of grace & agility in winter.
