Vehicle Detail
This car is a restoration project and is being sold as is. This is a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with a 350 4 barrel. It is an automatic shifting on the floor just like the 442's. I bought this car from my neighbor a few months ago as a project for myself and my 15 year old son who's in automotive in high school. We have decided that it's more of a project than we want to take on. Here's what I know about it. Click to View Full Gallery of Images I was told that the car has been in storage for the last 13 year. It was stored in one of those 2 car portable garages which collapsed from the heavy snow we had this last winter. This is how the front windshield shattered and the chrome riser is dented. There is also a dent on the passenger top of the fender, roughly the size of quarter. The body is very solid and little sign of rot. The only real visible signs are on the trunk and this is typical for these cars. See photos. There is also a little around the back window edging. What body work ash been done, if much or any at all, I do not know. I do not see signs of patch work or anything like that. Under the car, I do see where the floor has been patched, see photos. We have not taken out the carpet, so I do not know the extent. You can also see patches in the trunk. The frame seems solid, but there is rust and it looks like the frame has had welding and patches in some areas. See photos on my site here (http://gallery.me.com/businesshelper#100023). I cannot tell you if this is a problem or not. I do know that convertibles have less support since they do not have a structured roof. What has been done to the car before I got it, I have no idea. But here's what we have done: Changed oil and filter and put new plugs in. New battery. New Starter solenoid. New master cylinder, front disk brakes and rear drum breaks. Also replace about 80% of brake lines. We got the car to run and it drives and is registered and insured. However, you cannot drive it due to exhaust. What we know needs to be done: Needs new exhaust. Apparently someone put dual exhaust on the car, but it had a cross-over connection. This connection was capped, but is now rusted out, so it sounds like there is no exhaust. We also broke the bolt connecting the exhaust to the header when we needed room to take out the starter. We were going to attempt to patch, but felt if we were going to pull the engine, it was a waste of money. The pumps for the convertible need to be fixed. Motor works, but lines to lifters are stripped. Needs shocks Wiring and electrical. Needs all new dash lights and I think some rewiring. All exterior lights work, but flasher could be updated. Generator light stays on, but the alternator is producing the correct voltage. Needs tires. Rears seem to be OK, but fronts show signs of dry rot. I would not trust them on a very long drive. Do I think the car could be a daily driver with little work? Maybe. However, our plan was to replace and fix as much as we could. I personally would want to do a frame off restoration, but this is work that I'm not interested in. The car comes with an extra rear bumper. I've tried to answer as best I could as much as I could, but I'm not an expert here nor do I know all that much about these cars. We were learning. Please ask me anything I missed and I will try to answer the best I can, Matt @ 203-748-2919. Buyer is responsible for picking up or arranging shipping from Danbury, CT. Connecticut does not require a title for cars this age, so cars are sold with CT state Q1 form.
