Vehicle Detail
Congratulations, you are considering a beautiful and spotless factory-built Vintage Spyder, with just over 2,600 miles. If you know anything about these cars, or have researched them at all, then you know Vintage is the best in the business. Unlike other manufacturers, they hand build these Spyders -from scratch- from the ground up. No old VW chassis' here. Production is limted to around 9 cars a year. This example is essentially just as new. Titled as a 1956 Porsche, it was built in late 2003 (see pic with build plate). It is finished in the quintessential Metallic Silver, with real repro black leather Speedster seats ($$), black stripes on top of rear fenders (painted on and cleared over - near concourse quality - $$$), and racing harness-type seat belts. The car has never been raced, never twanged, never painted on. This car is loaded with essentially every option offered by Vintage. Included are: * Competition windshield * Original driver headrest faring (never installed) * Wide-five powder coated wheels * Banjo steering wheel with Porsche horn button * Amazing 2276 factory-built CB Performance engine * Super-duty trans * Rare Spyder exterior mirror * Trick repro interior rear-view mirror * Special ceramic exhaust * Many authentic Porsche parts (turn signals, etc) * Actual functional cooling fins, etc unlike other makers This is just a spin the key and go deal, never given a moment's trouble to me or the previous owner. Compare with a new one at $45K plus, then add over a year's waiting list. Not to mention transport costs, depending on where you are located. I can assist with arranging transport anywhere in the world by the way (although transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer). If you are Jerry Seinfeld, or one of the very few fortunate individuals to land one of the originals (only 139 ever produced, James Dean quickly eliminated one of them), expect to pay well in to the 7 digits. This is as exacting replica as you'll ever find, for a mere fraction of the price. Not to mention this one is not only drivable - IT'S AN ABSOLUTE BLAST! Starts every time, runs like a top, and sounds as cool as anything you've ever heard. Actually, I've owned probably 100+ Porsches, and this one is easily among the coolest. If time and space weren't both against me, I'd keep it for sure. See the video and links below for some more detailed information. Study the pics to get the gist of it. And call me if you are serious. You will never own a cooler, more fun, head turning car, I can just about guarantee it! I acquired this car from noted Porsche collector, author and expert Jim Schrager. It was previously part of his personal collection. Here is an exerpt of what he submitted to Sports Car Market magazine after purchasing the car: It's hard to understand why a guy with a warehouse full of real Porsches would have any interest in a fake. Truth be told this isn't as much car, as it is rolling sculpture that makes noise. You won’t figure this out by looking at the photos. You've got to stand in front of it, look it over very carefully, and hop in it for a ride. Here's what you’d discover: You have your hands on (the recreation of) a Porsche Spyder that looks tremendously close to the real thing, yet is brand new and squeaky clean. Further, you can drive the heck out of it. Everything works like new, because it is—-right down to and including the VW-based engine case. It’s wicked fast, handles like a big go-kart, is all very well put together, yet every part is cheap and available. Over the past decade, 550 Spyder builders have developed far more authentic and quicker cars with much better details. Led by a company called Vintage Spyders, in CA, competitors such as Beck have also done a great job at adding original features. The secret of this little beast is the way you can use it. Not to pretend to have a million dollar race car too precious to touch, but to have a car to use and enjoy. Not like a piece of furniture, not a car that will own you. But a car you get to own and enjoy, all at about 97% off the cost of a real one. Watch this Youtube video of the car for a "live" look, and hear it run! Please forgive my 11 year old's slightly unsteady videographer's hand :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLG-W3Tnfuw&feature=email Visit vintagespyders.com for the whole tour of the factory that creates these unique examples. Here's a link to a review that a news anchor friend of mine posted on this car (I let him drive it one Sunday afternoon, and he was ready to sell the Honda, the minivan, the Audi & everything but his soul to have it!): http://www.fox28.com/story/15600944/vintage-550-spyder Of course seeing/hearing it in person is the only way to get the true experience. I have seen people at shows walk right past real speedsters, roadsters, 911/930 Turbos (some of them mine!) and go straight to this car. If you're not sold by now, then perhaps this isn't the car for you. It's certainly not for everyone. And that's why the next owner will be the only one in town and at every show to get more attention than those with cars valued (and paid) 3 and 4 times as much. So are you the next Spyderman??? I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person prior to buying or bidding. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. I have owned over 100 Porsches, and am picky about my cars, but potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. I can help with very reasonable shipping arrangements, but transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. International bidders need to have U.S. funds as well as transportation arrangements in place BEFORE bidding. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email or call me at 574-361-5315 with any questions or more details.
