Mercedes-Benz Coupes were always a limited production car, with early 1930's Coupes numbering in the 10-20 range, 1950's Coupes were in the hundreds, etc. Thus this statistic should come as no surprise: the W123 range of cars, produced from 1976 to 1985, had a production total of 2,696,914 units, of which only 8,007 were 300CD Turbodiesel Coupes. The 1981-85 300CD range could be termed the best of the W123 production due to the shortest wheel base, the powerful Turbodiesel engine, and the great looking Coupe styling. This particular example has other major advantages to set it apart from the majority of it's already rare brothers and sisters: first, as a California original car, there is zero rust on the car ( blue 7-digit license plates puts the original registration in the mid-'80's) . Second, the mileage of 69,900 means that the car has covered a small fraction of it's practical service mileage. The car looks and drives like a new car. This car pulls strongly to 85+ MPH speeds, takes the curves and bumps with ease, and stops like a 2011 (better actually, with positive confidence inspiring action, without a $2000 ABS unit to fail...) The car is equipped with a full size factory sunroof, in very nice working order. It opens and closes at proper speed, and the small wind deflector moves up and down right on cue. Please note the lenses and lights all retain their original unfaded coloration. The paint also has a very deep luster, with a very pleasing metallic content. All chrome trim strips are in excellent original condition. The chrome / rubber bumpers are also in near-new condition. Both doors, as well as trunk and hood have absolutely proper closing and latching operation: typical Mercedes-Benz quality comes through. Please note the pillarless design of the two-door style-- when the windows are all down, the chrome surrounds really bring out the roof line and window openings in a unique way. The interior has virtually no wear or sun damage. The seats are in almost perfect order, with great support and all adjustments working. Wood trim is in excellent condition, as is the dash panel. All gauges operated properly when tested, as did lights, horn, signals etc. This car is equipped with the later Climate Control III, a very reliable system. It blows heat + cold air when and where it is supposed to, and has been upgraded to R134a, a non ozone damaging refrigerant. Speaking of environmental soundness, this car is an ideal candidate for a Bio-Fuel conversion. The engine compartment is the real Star of the show ( to some...) The car received a check over from a Factory Trained Technician. The diagnostic tests showed perfect cam, valve, cylinder and bearing condition, which was to be expected with 69,900 miles on the clock. The four speed automatic was also found to be in top order. The acceleration is very strong, and entertaining to drive. This is a car that is ready to use, now. This is a wonderful looking and driving original California Coupe turbo that constantly receives compliments and thumbs up. The new owner will be pleased with it's overall mechanical, cosmetic and driving condition. This car was bought from the previous owner in California, then shipped to Minnesota. This car was advertised as a perfect 10 but when received there were minor dents and scratches. Overall I would rate this car an 8 1/2. We only put around 800 miles since we've had it but due to financial problems we have to sell it. If you look closely you can see the . small indentation behind the gas tank. This is a near perfect 69,900 mile Benz. bid or don't leave me alone about the scratches.
