Vehicle Detail
True barn find 1958 Edsel Pacer that was built in October 57 at the San Jose California plant. Appears to have been sold new at Masterson's Edsel in Ventura, Cal. From what history I have come up with it came to Western Oregon around 1965. Previous owner had a fuel line split which caused the distributor wires and carb to burn so he put it in a friends barn till he could fix it....about 20 years ago. I replaced the carb and plug wires and a few primary wires, pulled the plugs and oiled up the cylinders, made a temp fuel supply and it fired right up. Lifters settled back in and engine sounds good. Fuel tank has been replaced with a good clean 57 Ford unit. This car is equiped with std. steering and brakes, all tinted glass. Windshield has very small ding toward upper side otherwise near perfect. Reserve price is reasonable. Please read comments from ebay feedback. BRAKES: All new master and wheel cylinders, shoes and hardware 3 hoses and the self adjusters. Hubs and bearings all cleaned out and repacked with new seals. Rear axel seals replaced. All backing plates pulled and blasted and repainted. Note, only one drum needed a slight turning and all were still standard which gives credance to the 62K miles which was also confirmed by the previous owner. System was flushed and filled with DOT 5 Silicon fluid so no matter how long you own it they will always be like new! ENGINE: Original 361" yellow painted with white valve covers which state E400. Runs very well and only has a very small leak at the rear main seal. Trans: Works well along with the electric switching gear. The contach on the 'D' button at times does not work at times but using 'L' it engages right now and then hitting D it upshifts to 2nd and then 3rd. Starts out fine from the next stop. Reverse is right now and no slipping. Front seal leaks from sitting so long. TIRES: They hold air!! Will need to be replaced. I do not have the spare or the jack. REAR END: Original 2.91 and quiet. BODY: Very straight from any angle. Can't see any evidence of collision damage ever. Slight scrape and dent just in front of rear bumper @ 1/4 panel on right side. Small rust hole on both front fenders at lower end ( see photo ) Doors and 1/4 solid and inside of 1/4"s also solid. Rockers also solid in and outer with small hole under sill plate on left about the size of a nickel. Left rear foot well has a few very small holes, front floors good. Spare tire well still has paint in it! The right 1/4 upper molding is bent and the left upper 1/4 mldg along with the left rocker molding are loose from rusted clips and will be inside the car during shipping. Pass side door glass is broken. Please note the excellent fit of the door glass to 1/4 window. This is the same on both sides along with fenders to door fit! The trunk tension rods do not hold up the lid. I am told that this is not un-common and might be a piece also used on 58 Fords. I also have the original keys. The two primered areas on the right side show no evidence af any body work so I can't really say why. STEERING & SUSPENION: All is tight and the upper and lower control arm bushings are in good condition. The idler arm is getting loose and should be replaced. EXHAUST: The exhaust pipes and both mufflers look to be from the factory and are still ok. Tail pipes are long gone. Actually sounds perty good! I have been a fulltime restoration business for the last 38 years and will be glad to answer all and any questions you may have along with any extra photos you may need. Thanks very much for looking, Alan Detrick Salem Oregon
