Vehicle Detail

1970 Chevrolet Corvette Big Block 454 This 1970 Corvette original big block car took me over 8 years to acquire. I had to convince the 83 year old gentleman that it was time to part with his prize possession. He had owned it over 35 years since the 1970's, so it was a hard decision for him. I've always been a 442 guy, so I took my Corvette expert friend with me to look the car over before I made the purchase. This was my first Corvette, and I just lucked out since it happened to be an original LS-5, and a 1970 the pinnacle of the muscle car era. It has the cool L-88 hood, and I was told the vin number verifies this to be a true LS-5 car. The vin number is listed above. My buddy said the undercarriage is one of the cleanest Vette's he's seen from this year, and that this is a No Hit Vette. Meaning there were no signs of this car ever being involved in any type of collision. I haven't seen any signs of this car ever being rusted or repaired like 90% of these cars were from the Midwest. The floors and frame are very nice, and I welcome anyone who would like to come out to visually inspect the car. He also pointed out all the spots that are typically rusted to show me how clean those spots are. It's very hard to find a 42 year old Corvette that survived ever being hit. This Vette seems to have mostly all of its original parts. I simply had this nearly perfect body painted with the original color code for 1970 Corvette red. The previous owner told me that the mileage is correct at just over 60,000 miles, but the speedometer just stopped working several years back from sitting. He had replaced the original engine with a brand new 454 big block in the mid 1980's. The engine was recently detailed and since he was getting older it was driven less than 10,000 miles and the car just sat in the garage. This big block has 390 horsepower just like it shows on the console. This Vette rolled out of the factory with a 4 speed, but as the prior owner got older he switched it to a Turbo 400 automatic. He never kept the original transmission, but the clutch pedal is still in place. What appears to be the original shifter and boot are hooked up with the automatic, and the gear pattern is still showing on the console. This car can easily be switched back to the way it came from the factory. The one thing I know missing under the hood is a vacuum canister for the wipers. Apparently that vacuum controls the slot that allows the wipers to come out from under the hood. If this car is ever taken out in the rain the wipers do work fine, but that slot has to be opened manually under the hood. I believe that canister can be purchased for under $150 at any Corvette parts carrier. From everything I've learned about Corvette's all the chrome and trim seem to be in place and all in good or decent drivers quality condition. This 454 big block runs like a beast! It has headers with relatively newer dual exhaust. Everyone is sure to hear this big block coming! All four wheels have dual piston disc brakes, and the front pads were just replaced. The left front caliper was replaced at that time. The tires are newer raised white lettered P215/65R15 Dunlop Radial GT Qualifiers on the correct 15"x 8" Corvette wheels. The interior is black leather and still shows relatively well as you can see from the pictures. The prior owner always kept aftermarket seat covers on the bucket seats, so that's why I believe they avoided getting all ripped up. The original AM/FM stereo stopped working years ago, but the last owner thought that the speakers became unplugged. The new stereo choice will be left up to the next owner. I was happy that he didn't cut up the dash panel, which is still in nice shape. I'm only selling this car because I have access to the 442 of my dreams. I'm selling this car at "No Reserve", so on Sunday night at 7pm central time this Corvette will be sold to the highest bidder. Here is a prime opportunity to own a Corvette that has incredible investment potential. Within the past couple months I've seen several 1970 Corvette's sell at live auctions anywhere from $60,000 to $70,000. I'm not saying that this car is anything like a Barrett-Jackson museum piece, but if the next owner desires this big block is the right piece to restore to that quality. As I write a description I try to list everything I can think of, and show as many pictures as I can. If you feel I have missed anything please ask as many questions as you like. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. Don't miss out on this great bargain. Bid now and bid often! Thank you for taking the time to preview my auction. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!
