Vehicle Detail
You're looking at a really nice 1953 Sunbeam S7 Deluxe. Originally manufactured by BSA as a "Gentelman's Tourer". It's an inline 500cc twinn with dry clutch and exposed shaft drive, marketed to compete with BMW's of the day. This S7 has all original metalware, no reproduction parts. The rims and spoked were originally painted black, but these have been tastefully triple chrome plated in the UK before it was brought to the USA. The classic wide white walled balloon tires are like new Cocker brand. The odometer is in kilometers, a rarity for this British bike, most likely originally destined for mainland europe. It reads a bit over 71,000 kilometers, somewheres around 40,000+ in miles. If you are not familiar with these bikes, check out Classic Glory, a UK web site dedicated to these wonderful cycles. Parts are readily available through Stewart's Engineering, a UK firm dedicated to keeping these bikes on the road. I bought this bike with hopes of doing a cosmetic restoration with a classic two-toned paint scheme and some additional chrome work. My goal was to have a classic sunday cruiser. Due to changing work commitments I have not been able to acomplish my plans for this bike, so I am regretably putting it up for auction. Since aquiring it I have driven it less than 300 miles and haven't even started it in the past year, so it is time to say good-bye. This bike is 58 years old, and thus it is not perfect. Some of the chrome is showing it's age and at one point it appears to have been repainted, or at least touched up. It's British, so there have been oil drips from the bottom pan. I had planned on an oil pan gasket and extension, available from Stewart's, to increasae the oil capacity. I had also planned on converting the 6 volt electrics to 12 volts. A conversion kit is available that closely resembles the original. Presenty there is an electrical bug that I haven't been able to sort out. If not started and run regularly the battery will drain in a few weeks or so. When I was running it it started easily and was an absolute joy to ride. It will keep up with traffic, but acceleration is modest an handling is not very nimble by today's standards. This bike is not titled, so check your state requirements. I aquired it while working in Georgia and they do not issue titles for bikes over 25 years old. I will provide a bill of sale and previous UK documents including MOT certificates and shipping documents. The bike is for sale locally, so the auction may be stopped if sold. Shipping is the responsibiliy of the buyer. I will help coordinate a pick up by your agent. This bike is being sold as is, keep in mind that it is 58 years old, but it is a classic bike that can be used with minor attention as is or restored to whatever level of finish you want. My reserve is below what I have seen other Sunbeams posted for and with care it will appreciate over the years. Please ask all questions before you buy and please don't bid unless you are prepared to make payment.
