Vehicle Detail

For auction is a 1970 Calypso Coral Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet Mustang. Included in the pictures is a copy of the Marti Report and a copy of the Original build sheet that breaks down all the options from the factory. The car retains it original buck tag and Ford door tag. Overall, this an extremelly solid 428 Mach 1 Mustang with all its original panels/floorboards with no rust (original Arizona Car that has spent most of its life between Arizona and Texas) that would make it an ideal restoration candidate. This car is well optioned with power steering, power front disc brakes, Air conditioner, folding rear seat and sport slats. The car is complete, runs and drives, but I would trailer the car since it has been off the road since 1999. I have a clear Texas title under my name. History: I have documentation starting in 1983 when this car was purchased from the Pre-Owned car company out of Phoenix for $ 3,000. Don't we all wish we could buy them for that amount today! The car was then sold in 1998 to a gentleman in Austin, Texas. The Austin owner stored the car in dry storage and started collecting parts with the intention of restoring it one day. I purchased the car from this gentleman in April of 2010. Like him, I had intentions of restoring the car, but a job relocation forces me to sell it. Drivetrain: The block currently in the car is a C8ME 428 cobra jet block produced in march 1969. The car still retains its original exhaust manifolds, heads and intake manifold. The shaker top and intermediate plate are original, but the base is missing. A mustang air cleaner base was "retrofitted" to fit the shaker top. I have receipts of the engine overhauled in June of 1989 when the car was showing approximately 7,100 miles on the odometer (reset once it reached 100,000). The car currently shows 11,770 miles so the engine has approximately 4,700 miles since the rebuild. The receipt details a full engine overhaul and assembly. In specific, there was a new camshaft, drain plugs/freeze plugs, oil pump, all new gaskets, head machined and all new springs, seals, valve guides installed, ground crankshaft. Total cost for all this work back in 1989 was $ 1,953.14, tax included. Even though the receipt does not clearly state how much the engine was bored over, there is a line item for 8 new pistons with 40 thousands overbore. So, it is safe to say that the engine was bored over 40 thousands. Body: The body on this car is probably the most rust free that I have seen. There is no rust through whatsoever on this car! The floorboards, torque boxes, framerails are extremelly solid. There are some dings, dents on the car but no indications of collision or panel replacement. Paint: The car retains it original color of calypso coral, which is highly desirable. It looks like the car has been repainted once. The door jambs still retain the original paint. The paint is faded and has thinned in some areas where you can see the primer. Interior: The car originally came with a white clarion knit interior. At some point, somebody changed it to a black interior except for the rear back seat. All interior panels and headliner are the original white in color that were painted black. Wheels: Original Ford styled steel wheel that was optional. Glass: Other than the windshield, the car retains all of its original Ford glass. AC components: The underdash fan works and blows. The original compressor and condenser come with the car.
