Vehicle Detail
Built in Jan 1979 at Twin Cities plant and special ordered in medium metallic blue with 460ci motor and dual gas tanks and the XLT trim package. The original owner sold after 2 years to second owner who left it to his son the third owner upon his death. In 2005 I bought the truck in Amarillo Texas where it spent its whole life. It had no rust and was faded but in original state except for non factory radio and wheels. A restoration shop in Independence Kansas owned by the local Ford parts manager performed the work. The original 460ci motor was pulled and a new 460 was built by Tuff Dawg engines in Phoenix, AZ. The C6 transmission underwent a complete rebuild. New headers and dual exhaust installed. In the pictures you can see in the engine bay everything is either new or brought back to its new state. The A/C was already converted to r134A but I had new hoses and fittings and expansion valve installed. It blow cold. The bed was removed from frame and all painted areas were sanded and repainted to the original color coded to this truck. The bed was sprayed with a black liner. New PPG windshield and rubber gasket installed. New chrome trim from Dennis Carpenters was used and I found a NOS grill and headlight bezels. Bumpers are NOS from Obsolete Ford in Oklahoma City, OK. The interior has new door panels and an NOS steering wheel. I bought original new Ford vinyl from NOS Interiors and had the seat redone from a picture in the sales floor catalog from 1979. New wheels from American Racing and new rubber from Goodyear was added. I spent many hours tracking down every NOS part I could find. I wanted the truck to feel new but be a dependable driver. I have a binder with all receipts and pictures the shop took during the project. I have promo dealer booklets from 1979, original service manuals and a master parts catalog on CD. I even have a letter from Ford Research Unit that details the original specs the truck left the factory equipped with. There are a few things I would do if I keep the truck longterm. There is a slow oil drip from the rear main. As many of you know this can occur if an old truck is not driven much the cork like oil gaskets dry out. I would replace the rubber gaskets on inner doors and windows and paint the door jams. Finally the cheap carpet kit needs replaced. There are no dents or dings on this truck. I do not drive it in cold weather or winter. In the spring and summer it gets driven about two to three times a month. I have spent over $24,000 on it to make it as sharp as I could. It runs strong and smooth and people take note of you with the sound of 3 inch dual exhaust roaring past. The winning bidder will deposit $500 in my paypal account within 48 hours of close of auction. Winning bidder is responsible for picking the vehicle up. At that time the balance in cash will be exchanged for clear title and bill of sale. Any questions email me thru ebay on this auction.
