Vehicle Detail
This is my 1981 VW Pickup. I have spent about $10,000 on it over the last 4 years purchasing and restoring it. It has new radiator, new hoses, new heater core, new cylinder head, new timing belt, lots of new front end parts. The bed is painted inside with black spray in bed liner. The tires are about 50% or better. The wheels are recently aligned It has new glow plugs and always starts and runs well. The paint is original in color, VW Royal Red. It was professionally painted several years ago and has been stored winters. The truck engine was rebuilt in early 1990's and has seen only moderate use since. I drove it for pleasure occasionally or as a second vehicle. It has Blaupunkt speakers and a Pioneer CD player (will not play MP3). Car has GTI bucket seats, there is a tear in the passenger seat about 6 inches long, a split. There is no structural rust. There is one hole in the floor pan less than a penny in size that was there when I bought it. I have removed the carpet under the seat and photographed the floor pan to try to show this. It is shown in the floor pan photo near the right side of the top (top of the photo) seat runner. No other rust exists anywhere on this vehicle. I purchased the truck in Colorado, it's original home. These trucks are reputed to get 40 mpg diesel economy. Now for the flaw list: The speedometer does not work. Mileage is estimated to be about 135,000 at this time. I'll include a GPS which I use for a speedometer. Also the passenger door only opens from the inside, needing a new door handle to fix this, although the original one looks fine so I've never gotten around to changing it (cosmetically this is a very nice truck and gets a lot of looks). The washer pump is not working, the wipers work fine. All the exterior lights work, the dome light inside does not; I put a new headliner in (looks great) and have not wired the new dome light up. When I changed the heater core I broke the plastic housing under the dash. This has been repaired with silicone glue; an original would be available form Parts Place in Pontiac, Michigan if someone is looking to restore for show car use, otherwise it works. With a little finishing up it could be a show vehicle. It comes with a topper as seen in the photos. The vehicle is sold as is with no warranty. Buyer is to pick up within 15 days, after which storage fees may be applied. Buyer is responsible for all shipping charges and arrangements. Payment is by Paypal only. $500 non refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close and the remaining balance of the price is due 3 days of auction close. On Sep-05-11 at 18:16:06 PDT, seller added the following information: I wanted to add some notes. I noticed the AutoCheck report stated that the car was titled in New Mexico prior to my ownership. When this was pointed out to me I had to think back and yes I do now remember the title said New Mexico. However, I bought the truck (on eBay) from a man in Colorado. He evidently purchased it from someone in Des Moines, New Mexico, a town near the Colorado border according to Wikipedia. I picked the truck up in Pueblo Colorado (near the New Mexico border). The truck was in storage in Pueblo for years and also the paperwork for the engine rebuild which I have in my possession shows the engine was rebuilt in 1992 at Big A Auto Parts in Aurora, Colorado. Some other new things I forgot to mention. I have replaced the water pump when the timing belt was changed. The fuel lines are new. I replaced a leaking fuel injector and cleaned the others. I was told the injector pump was resealed before I bought the vehicle; it does not leak or smell like diesel. Also wanted to add some photos of minor scratches and a "door ding" (someone opened their SUV door and dimpled my then brand new paint and pickup bed.) See the additional photos. Also there is a seam in the photo on the pillar behind the drivers door that has a fine bead of silicone, on both driver and passenger sides. That is because my body men accidentally stripped the original seal. This can be seen in the photos and is barely noticeable. As I said before, the truck is not a full restoration but very nice. I see that Paypal works only for the $500 deposit so the remainder is due in cash or cashiers check within 3 days of auction close. Check must clear before the title or truck are taken. On Sep-10-11 at 20:25:18 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDITIONAL NOTE: Please read NO further bids will be accepted from those with less than 5 feedback..
