Vehicle Detail

1961 Buick Special Wagon Trust us, you will be the only one at the cruise night with one of these. Here is a chance to own a very nice, little car. It has the original Aluminum V8 We bought this car a couple years ago with the intention of either a hot-rod or dragster. We took it to a couple cruise nights, but it has sat in storage since. Unfortunately, we are out of space and “Beulah” as we have called her, will have to go. Our loss is your gain as you are looking at a car that is fine as is, but has a world of potential as well. With a little interior work and a tune-up and you’re ready to go. We’re talking clear title here! Milage is as it reads, no guarantee on the actual milage. History- We don’t know too, much, however, at one time, this car was a parts runner and has some old performance stickers in the rear window. Body- You are looking at a solid, solid car here, you can tell that this was a garage-kept car. The paint, as you can see has nice gloss and shine, and is a definite solid driver. There are some paint chips and the paint is a little on the amateur side. There are a couple spots of rust bubbling, as you can see in the pics. There is a dent in passenger side fender on the wheel well. I know I’m beating it up, but I know I would want to know everything. The floors and trunk (spare compartment) are rock solid. Just take a look at the pics. You’re getting a very nice car here!! … One of the reasons we bought this car! Operationally, everything works, doors, the rear gate opens and the rear window cranks down, which is really cool. All of the glass is there and in nice shape. Engine- The engine is the original 215 with 2speed automatic and 4 barrel carburetor. Looking at the engine with the exception of the air cleaner and newer plug wires, the engine compartment looks pretty original… Here’s some info I found about the Buick 215. At introduction, Buick's 215 was rated 150 hp (110 kW) at 4400 rpm. This was raised soon after introduction to 155 hp (116 kW) at 4600 rpm. 220 ft·lb (298 N·m) of torque was produced at 2400 rpm with a Rochester 2GC (DualJet) two-barrel carburetor and 8.8:1 compression ratio. A mid-year introduction was the Buick Special Skylark version, which had 10.00:1 compression and a four-barrel carburetor, raising output to 185 hp (138 kW) at 4800 rpm and 230 ft·lb (312 N·m) at 2800 rpm. I don’t know if this 4-barrel was original to the car for sure. Interior- The interior is the area that needs the most work. Not sure what the front buckets are out of, but we bought ORIGINAL FRONT BENCH AND REAR SEATS AND THEY DO COME WITH THE CAR. The seats, themselves, cost us $500, because it was hard to find originals, especially since we wanted the fold down rear seats. The seats need recovering, but are sold cores and come with the mouting stuff for the fold down rear. The dash looks pretty good. This car needs new carpeting, obviously. Has a neat classic 8-ball for the shifter. Operationally- We just put in a new battery. The car fires up and runs roughly (needs a tune-up) and leaks a little oil. The brakes still have decent pressure. In is a manual brake/manual steering car, so you know what you’re getting there. Overall- As we’ve said, this is a good solid car. With some interior work and a little engine work, you could just drive as is, or take it to the next level. Take a look at google for pics of some custom wagons of this model… They look awesome. May I also suggest this would make an awesome gasser (that was always my hope for this car!! PLEASE- Ask questions. Don’t hit the buy it now, then decide you want to shoot a bunch of questions at us. Please feel free to email or call Mike at 847-687-6993. Thanks for looking!!
